  • Anyone think that Quake should be remade with Source Technology?

I mean, it would be sweet to see what Quake would look like with Valve's rendition of the engine, since it's a far better engine, albeit most of the changes are in game, rather than the mapping part of it. Do you think that id Software should've revived the original Quake under the new versions of the engine?

    No.

What you seem to be forgetting is that the Source engine is derived from the Quake engine. Judging by the fact that Id no longer list the Quake engine as "current engine technology" on their licensing page, I'd say that it's just Valve who are trying to flog a commercially dead horse. Everyone else is having much more fun flogging it non-commercially...

id didn't make the source engine.... they are too busy making spaceships

hmm, i wouldnt call buying a license of the Quake engine then spending 8 years to make the source engine "flogging".

      Main Entry:
      flog
      Pronunciation:
      \ˈfläg\
      Function:
      verb
      Inflected Form(s):
      flogged; flog·ging

1 a: to beat with or as if with a rod or whip b: to criticize harshly
2: to force or urge into action : drive

3 achiefly British : to sell (as stolen goods) illegally
i highlighted the uk definition since u are from the Uk, if that truely is your meaning...

I'm not sure where u stand on the matter, but alot of people suddenly scoff Valve for this cool game they made. Touting "fanboy" this or that like it's a disease. Sure it came from Quake. If lord Havoc made HL2 your dick would be harder than 1000 Viagra pills. Please stop this stupid (valve just got the source engine from id) propoganda! Sheez! That's like saying DarkPlaces is total CRAP because it supports quake 1, a dead horse! I'm happy to see someone take the quake source and move it all the way up to 2004's best game of the year! PC games are way behind the console game development why should anyone piss on that?!

I'm sorry if this sounds rude... i think im starting to sound like CheapAlert

That definition wasn't where I was heading. Try the phrase "flogging a dead horse".

"Flogging a Dead Horse is a compilation album of singles by the Sex Pistols"

          oh!

If someone is trying to convince people to do or feel something without any hope of succeeding, they're flogging a dead horse. This is used when someone is trying to raise interest in an issue that no-one supports anymore; beating a dead horse will not make it do any more work.

It's not the SOURCE engine that is the dead horse IMHO, it's the linear gameplay that Quake has. Even Quake 4's gameplay is kinda boring; in the fact that monsters just wait to be triggered as you progress through the level. Sure most FPS games are linear, but HL2 to me felt more in-depth than "Quake has two basic goals. First, stay alive. Second, get out of the place you're in."
