I'm actually working on an update to the server browser currently. Some sort of live chat or chat box will be looked at after the new server browser is launched... more to come about that shortly... and thanks to Efess

Java is not necessary to accomplish something like this. It could be done with just javascript, much like facebook or gmail chat.

    Hey Solecord,

Did anything else come out of this? Some sort of instant communication feature would be awesome to get games going.
Alot of people use the server browser to check if people are playing, but there are most likely alot of times where more than a few people are just waiting for someone to join a server.
I seem to think also that the chat may reduce some of the "peripheral-chat-like" topic threads.

I despise Java, like every page that ever uses it causes your brower to get an hourglass for 15 seconds when it loads.

But whatever, I uninstalled Java so any inconvenience won't affect me.

Chat = chatroom... anyone can join and chat, not just between two users. However it would require java or something...

The only fear of a shoutbox is it ends up being used for spamming. I can install a shoutbox but it will be closely monitored. If people use it for spamming or messing around it will be removed...

Shout Box would be open to the logged on users of quakeone.com and a chat box would be between two specific members.

I think the Shout Box is better if someone needs help they can type in their question and whoever can help them out, rather than having to click 20 individual users to get their answer. Same goes for finding someone to join a game.

Good idea...a couple of years ago I used to do the IRC thing and that was good with the HDzBot and while people were chatting, you could ask them to play. No more IRC just quakeone and seeing whos on the servers now but yea, I think people scan quakeone and wait until someone is at the server to join...there could very well be many times that alot of people are just waiting on this site to see if anyone joins an empty server...yea blah blah
