Most TPU networking gurus shake thier heads when they hear Dlink mentioned.
I've had problems with my Linksys WRT54G too... funny thing is I never even used the wireless. One day it just quit... wouldn't connect to anything. Putting togeather a small, energy efficient PC is really the best router you can ever have. My uncle does this—he uses Untangle on it. I've been using this netgear router myself, it's really nice but it can't handle a ton of connections at once without lagging (torrenting while gaming is pretty much a no-go)

I've never heard anything bad about D-Link, but I only hear good about linksys - esp the WRT54G. Neil - what hacked firmware are you talking about?
Maybe i'll give that D-Link a shot.

Fuck anything but Dlink!
This router is so powerful, I have 4 computers at my house and they all run 54Mbp (main one = 100mbp), when my partner brings his laptop, same speed.
Linksys = weaksauce

WRT54Gs v4 with custom firmware version: v4.71.1, Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c or else you're just buying shit.

Linksys WRT54GL Wireless router with hacked firmware gives you full control basically makes a $60 router into a $600 router.

I use a D-link DIR 655. Had it for well over a year and it's worked perfectly.

I got similar problems with our WRT-54GL router. Here, even the LAN connection drops out from time to time. Just for like 30 seconds most of the time but it's still annoying in some cases. I get thrown out of Teamspeak and lose connection to games or sshd.

Router Recommendations
I hate routers. Every other day it seems either the wireless networking part of the router fails, or the internal DNS goes down. Its frustrating after a while
I started out with a netgear a few years ago and it started up with these random problems. I moved to a WRT-54G v8 router that I bought at staples, the IT people where I work recommended it. Worked for a while, but now it has the same problems. So I installed the DD-WRT firmware on it, didn't seem to help much.
I've narrowed it down to the Router, because when it fails, both the laptops in the house fails as well as the HTPC looses connection.
Does anyone else have the perfect solution to a router? I've been thinking about just buying a thin client box and installing software to turn it into a router..Tags: None
