From my experience I have to say that the Canadian system is far form perfect. #1 problem with the Socialist system like UnendingRequiem calls it, is when you go for an MRI or CTSCAN you get this piece of paper that some radiologist explains whats wrong with you, now I don't want his interpretation I want the motha fucking CD with the images (my body my private property). #2 is sometimes it can be hard to get a second opinion, its up to your GP (here in Canada its called Family Doctor) if he or she thinks one is needed. #3 this is the same in the US first thing they wanna push on you is your depressed or have anxiety and here try these pills and see how they work.

i agree, this is how it goes, as stated above...
i have a cheap solution, roll it, light it, smoke it, and i havent needed to go to a doctor in 14 years... except for an mri scan in Israel, they gave me these HUGE images that looked kinda like colorful X-rays, so i didnt need to color it after i got home

No system is near perfect. All have flaws and big flaws at that.
Although AAA I have to disagree with some of your points.
I have NEVER found it hard to get a second opinion. Yes the Family Doctor is usually controls that - however whenever I encountered that issue - I simply went to a walk-in clinic who then can direct you to another route.
I will use my recent Foot/Leg numbness. Couple months ago I basically couldn't feel a thing on the top of either of my feet. I did assume it was diabetic related - however that generally comes YEARS after being diagnosed. I've only been Diabetic (by diagnosed standards) for 2yrs April 25th.
My family DR simply did the whole "You're Type 1 diabetic, it's to be expected". So I went into a walk-in clinic - he sent me for tests, which then had me sent to a few places. Yes annoying that I was getting bounced around - but happy as I was actually getting the issue LOOKED at instead of just basing the diagnosis around me being diabetic. Needless to say the numbness was just caused by my blood sugar being high for a extended period of time. A week after better management - about 90% of the feeling is back.
As for the "depressed" or "anxiety", see my "Near Death Experiences" thread. I don't want to retype it all but needless to say my near death they believed it could of been a suicide attempted and I had no pills given to me at all. It sounds like you might need to change Dr's as my Dr's I've had in Edmonton, St. Albert, Fort Qu'Appelle and Regina have ALL been great with the exception of my present Dr brushing my foot numbness aside - however he was partially correct on him stating what he said.
