  • Cantenna's ??

Anyone have experience with these??? I've made a fuck-ton of hoopty versions, using USB wifi dongle, which is incorrect but I still was able to get boosts in signal.

Has anyone ever purchased a "name brand" or "machined precisely" type manufactured to spec's cantenna ?? like this one here at Cantenna.com-Wifi Antenna .

I have been wanting to buy one of these for awhile now, but never get further than reading up on it then abandoning the thought lol

Honestly I wouldn't waste your money (my opinion). A homemade one can easily provide the same power if done correctly. How far do you need your signal to reach?

These are basically the same in concept but look a hell of alot better. I actually made a nice WiFi booster for the PC in our bedroom by using tinfoil, a can and wire. Looked ugly but then I got a old Halloween Decoration of a Skull which had LED's inside to make it glow. I put the content in there and got the soldering gun out and the LED's now blink with the WiFi adapter (still uses batteries though) and the range is great.

The advantage of these however is the appearance/style and portability. My skull extender is portable but could easily be broken. These are also smaller than most homemade ones too. So if this is going to be used for a Laptop - definitely go that route. If a PC and you don't care for looks - save your $$$ and go homemade.

      pringles can works great.
      cell phone antenna works good.
aluminum spaghetti strainer worked very good.
An old dtv sat dish works very very good. the trick is bending the copper wire and copper pipe knotch allignment and using a good ground plane.
I'm with Oop on this dont waste any money.
What you need is a copy of the ARRL handbook.

I used to live in the middle of no where in mountains close to the Alaskan border and the only internet was this "long range WIFI" or as they called it sattelite internet to ****** me in, it was also the only option of getting any internet. I had a full system that i rented from the local internet company for an extra $10 a month (the dish modem)total price was $50 a month. They called it high speed it was 512kb down and 125kb up but the antenna was far away on top of a mountain. Me at the time coming form a 3mb/s down and 1mb/s up, I thought it fucking sucked ass man could not watch youtube videos, just to watch one video it was a chore had to wait sometimes half an hour got a video to load. I played quake on it a couple of times tho the ping sucked and i gave up on it. It was a dish with a foot long cantenna think mounted to it, I cant find any pics online but hears a home job.

I'm outside the area for CABLE which, im betting has better throughput than our DSL.

looking for maximum gain in signal db and distance. So far all I see is 2miles

What are you trying to do, leech off a cable connection miles away? I can pretty much guarantee you that your wired DSL connection will be better than that. Even if you do get more bandwidth, your latency will go through the roof.

This was the problem I had at the time.
I was told it was 7Km ( 4.3 miles ) distance in a straight line from the bottom of the valley where I was to the top of the peak where the communications tower was. You get internet from it just don't expect much.

larger distance larger dish longer laggg.a laser will help with allignment. 5 miles is gonna need at least a primestar size or bigger.
The uplink is the thing, you are transmitting not just recieving.
You will need more power and a beefier transmitter.I can help with the dish,You can have it ,you come get it, 10' unimesh aluminum ku/c.
There used to be one of the best radio mechs in the country Im thinking shreveport area who should be able to hook up the linear amp for transmitting 100 watts prolly enough. Good luck
