Figured this would be a nice thread to have. Many of us have some nice ideas or just something we'd like to see or always wanted to do ourselves but lack to skills to do it.
I myself, I have basic map ideas - but you get me to open a map editor and I am instantly lost.
Give me a model idea, there's a decent chance I could do it (as long as it's not a living creature as my skills on making those are still weak).
So lets share ideas, maybe someone here who has the skills may like it and do it.
One thing I've always wanted to see was a Quake 1 themed DM17 - The Longest Yard.
The map has been ported and works great. Sadly it looks like Q3 with Q1 weapons - it's out of place in design.
So my idea I've had for a long time was to simply change the design of the jump pads, launch pads and remove the "void".
-Instead of the jumppads - they'd look more like the wind tunnels from that map. Simple to do, it'd just look different. So that middle platform would look like the wind tunnels. You'd never fall into the holes due to the wind coming out.
-The launch pads just need a reskin or a new design. I was more or less thinking the fading red glow that's on the side of the the teleporters on the start map. Another idea would be to make them tunnels themselves. This would be the better idea as it'd keep the theme of the whole "wind tunnels" concept.
-The launch pad that sends you up to the Quad Damage - same concept as the center jumppads - it's a wind tunnel you cannot enter. However instead of it floating - it'd instead have a tube that goes all the way down. So it's possible a player can hit it and fall into....
-"Void replacement". Instead of a massive long fall to your death. The map is instead floating on lava. If you fall in - you're dead. However it's not that far off from the edge of the level. It's maybe 2 feet from the floor.
-"black walls" - as the lava would have to look like it's contained. Just a castle wall would work. It'd look bland if it was basically 4 square walls. So some missing blocks here and there. Basically just looks like a beat up stone wall that has a suiting red skybox.
-"Teleporters" - Instead of the Q3's circular design - it's the DM3 style ones. The rectangle starry block.
-"Weapons/Items" - generally all ports have the ideal weapon set. Shotgun where it was in Q3, RL where the RL was and in place of the Railgun is the Lightning Gun. All other pickups (armor and all) get replaced with the Q1 equal. Obviously armor shards will be removed.
