I have seen more ads popping up in the last year than ever before - so to me its already like that on a good majority of sites.
Some day I probably will discontinue basic cable, you pay alot of money now for crap content and double the commercials.

It's really sad how our government can sell out so easily. Of course they'll say they're creating jobs in the process, when they're going to kill millions of small business jobs across the country, and create a few jobs with the largest corporations.
Everyone will lose but the pirates. They'll just find another way around it.

I think if SOPA passes, an encrypted peer-to-peer "dark net" will form (not a single one, tons of them like a multi-headed hydra). Maybe it is better in the long run, corporations can take their ads and shove it.Last edited by Baker; 01-19-2012, 03:32 PM.

but i knew this wouldn't be an issue for long. they will try again, but it would take something along the lines of "if we don't have access to information that monitors every individuals internet activity, babies will be raped and killed and blacks will become slaves again". then it might have a chance.

Lerster:
It all comes down to weather you believe you are a robot who's sole purpose is to obey commands. Your brain was put in your head, not mine or anyone elses. There is no secret internet wiFi hooked up directly to it that is like a back door for the creator so if you piss him or her off, they put the smack down onto you. All that paranoia comes from incorrect decisions and judgements happening based on how your brain is ' hardwired'. Thats the only parallel I can see in your analogy....but its a good one.

Soon cobalt it will be like this movie: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdImGZA-2SM]Hardwired movie Trailer 2009 - YouTube[/ame]
=) then there will be no escape....
Heh.
That trailer didn't show it but that chip they put in ur brain or on ur spine or whatever... it transmits commercials, in halograms to you... and you cannot turn them off... you have someone advertising to you in real life basically. So a sales person in your face... every so often... an can't mute it can can't ignore it, they even do it in your dreams.

Also TV commercials use to only be alowed 1 minute of commercials, and I beleive that is now been doubled. On occasion I find a TV show I like and wind up losing interest because the commercials are too long, and not only too long / too many, they are pretty much about getting your attention by doing something stupid, like watching animals sing and breakdance, young people hurt themselves, and some are even demeaning kids (Ally bank). Some day I probably will discontinue basic cable, you pay alot of money now for crap content and double the commercials.

I read last night that it did not pass , and the internet will remain free. It was said that the new economy shoved aside the old. I doubt they will let this lie dead for long though, they will think up something else sneakier and attempt to pass it again. Seems to me ' freedom of speech ' is trumped by the fact we use english language as the means of communication, and the British have exclusive rights to the language itself. So you say potato, they say pohtato. Here, the defeat could mean a vistory for them in a small step because they heard a big noise and were able to get some sites to ' disable themselves ' during this debate. Yes, I am saying the government we think is our own, is nothing more of a morph of what we thought was defeated back in 1776. It still has lots of ties to Britan especially in the financial markets.

I find it disconcerting that the United States government has broken away with the concept in the US Constitution called "due process".

I think it is abundantly clear that our government can be bribed. And SOPA/PIPA are examples of this. And apparently Congress and the President view the Constitution as toilet paper or something.
I wonder whether or not the US has to completely wreck the ship to get its bearings back.
But one way or another, the sun always rises.
