It IS sliced bread. I bet you it's going to end up being worse than Vista.

        Windows 8 Download | Windows 8 Beta

Developer 64bit version is released but consumer release is not till 29th of feb.

I'm prob just gonna stay on win7.

Don't feel the need to upgrade yet, until they make updates (unavailable for win7).

        Then i'll prob upgrade.

Downloading it right now, lets see what else they've removed/simplified. They've already removed the start button.

I tried out the developer preview that was released last year. M$ is trying to do away with the start button/ desktop, instead pushing users to use their new "Metro" interface which is more touch-screen friendly (think Windows Phone 7).

IMHO, the interface belongs on tablets, not on desktop PC's...

That's what everyone else thinks, Microsoft is just too ignorant. They've simplified everything.

I wonder if they will support the start bar though, with turning it on elsewhere.

Touch screen? For my PC? No thx. Could you imagine, then they would think OMG EVERY GAME MUST BE TOUCH SCREEN TOO.

Fuck you and your touch screen :F

Well, you can still access the start bar/desktop - it's treated as an app which is launched from a metro icon. You can alt+tab between metro and the desktop too.

One thing I wish they would do is like what some of the Linux Distros do and let you have multiple desktops. I forget which one, but one I tried has 4 numbers in a box located near the toolbar, and if you click on them, those are your multiple desktops...and your screen changes to the new desktop.

Huh? So far as I can see you can give it much the same interface as Windows 7 with Aero enabled. What's the problem with that? It's an excellent interface (Aero peek is awesome).

I wouldn't go getting all negative over it right now either - it's quite explicit that the current release is pre-beta. That means it's not finished yet, people! That means that things can change. Christ.

Anyway, don't think I'll be in a rush to upgrade either. Windows 7 is good enough for now, and unless some really compelling advantage comes along I'm happy to stay put. Maybe at my next hardware refresh, but not till then.

Back Track has the [1][2] shit you mention, so its probably Debian or Ubuntu you recall.

Most Linux desktops support multiple virtual desktops out of the box.

There is actually a Microsoft-released virtual desktop gizmo for Windows, which I remember using before my Windows install (I dual-boot) was killed by a virus. I should really reinstall it sometime.

there's a free program that lets you do this with windows:
                            TokyoDownstairs: DeskHedron

used to have it myself years ago, totally neat program, it lets you have up to max of 9 desktops. although dont need it since i have 2 monitors now and rarely have the problem with having to much open
                            .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
                            > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread
