whats your opinion? to have or have not? i've had a gun stuck in my face and would have given anything to have one at that moment. i've also had my back door kicked in at 4:00am by an asshole with a criminal record 4 pages long and yes he only got a year in jail because of a plea deal. so whats your opinion? have or have not? the next election will decide.

There is pretty much a topic about guns already going on. I agree with Having one as long as you are sane enough to carry and have all the proper training and legal permits. They have school's to get you trained and certified to carry a concealed fire arm. I am allowed to open carry due to my past job history. I prefer to conceal my weapon as i don't want many to know i carry it. My wife tends to forget sometimes i have it on me while we are out and she grabs my lower backside without thinking and of course my reaction is to put my hand on it quickly and secure it, though i know its her. Anyway, my suggestion is, Carry, get legal and carry a decent size glock. .17, .40, or .45.. no other way to go..

Its not anti european. Its 2 different countries. You guys have it your way and we have it ours. Its sad our government has big brown noses and up everyones ass and cant keep their business to themselves, therefore it allows other countries to get involved with our constitutional rights. My personal opinion and beliefs are simple. You live in europe, mind your countries business and ill mind mine. I personally would live in europe and respect their laws and rights because thats how its done. Its like going into someone eleses house, you disrespect it you might get knocked out. Respect it or X it, your choice. What goes on in my house stays in my house, not yours.

Me carrying a firearm from 3,000 miles away does not affect you and your country. Someone decided it was smart to say if we dont ban weapons in the US it does not help their country. Tough shit. It does not affect your country and it never has or will. Guns come from all over the world, not just the United States. Do fact searching before anyone post bull turds on here accusing a country of wrong doings.

Uh, this is my thought personally (not as an admin), but isn't your reply a bit over zealous to a one-sentence comment? I personally don't see any sort of attack here to warrant a full-blast counter-assault to a mild one word sentence?

Not new, but mother is psychologist that works with criminals in the prison system. They don't change. The sad thing is that bad eggs by the teenage years --- almost exclusively male --- are almost without exception who they will be the rest of their lives.

My answer would vaguely involve saying a prayer hoping that they are happier in the next life.

In this reality, some day this country and others will actually get serious about violent offenders. On the plus side, despite the pain you've been through you are alive and hopefully well.

Europeans are our friends. With a different point of view. And they often overlook significant differences between the United States and how most of Europe is.

Our inner cities are often poorly maintained (because we have a ton of land), their inner cities are often pristine (because they don't have a lot of land).

Public transit doesn't work for us, the USA is too big and not urban.

Cops are for AFTER a crime has occurred, the United States is poorly policed, in part because we have a low population density and in part because we have poorly decided to build barriers between different ethic groups (primarily African-Americans have their own culture and we have somehow established that as a general rule of thumb, they are free to have cancerous social and cultural problems as long as it doesn't affect white people all that much. And we call this "normal". This is wrong and highly dysfunctional.).

Our federal government is distant from the people, wasteful and unaccountable and our representative do not represent us. In Europe, their representatives are far more accessible and far more responsive and closer to the people.

We should be able to interact with our European friends in a civil manner and share our different points of view without antagonizing them.

This isn't how the world works anymore. Everyone has their fingers in the global pie. You guys have troops in my country... probably even nukes. The world is a village. Of course it matters to Europeans who your next president is, where your next war is and what kind of laws you have, because unfortunately laws, religion, mindset and so forth can be exported (eg "War on terror"). Even easier in the age of the internet.

Regarding EU not having a lot of land: It's half as big as the USA, but a) that's still very large, b) we have more population and c) our population density is a ton higher than in the USA.

While it's true that guns don't kill people, people kill people, I'm sure less people would die if you could only buy bolt-action .22 caliber rifles or even pump action shotguns with a limited magazine capacity compared to AR-16s and Glock with extended magazines.

You can kill more people faster with the latter, and even though there will always be crazies they will do less damage if gun laws are somewhat tightened.

Yes, it only reduces the bodycount, but in practice "reducing the bodycount" can mean the difference between someone's kid living or not. That is worth it, IMHO.

In Ohio, outside the 3 major cities (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati) it is mostly cow pasture or corn fields. Outside Massachusetts and other little coastal states, most of the USA is spacious.

Check out Nebraska or Montana. Even Texas looks sparse compared to, say, France which is about the same size.

P.S. Things like the Batman shooting are news in the USA because it is rare. That isn't common or normal in the USA.
