The key to wisdom is realizing there is always far more to learn.
Never assume you are wise. If you have pride, vanquish it and learn humility (this one can be tough). If you have flaws (yes) acknowledge it and accept the fact that only people that do nothing make no mistakes. And a man's worth can be measured in part in who his friends are and those who would wish to be his enemy.
Learn to distinguish among dissenters those who are honest in heart and mind, but lack the "big picture", acknowledging that no one grows without questioning the status quo and that you yourself were there.
[But accept that some people are just dumbasses Hey look, I didn't write the rules, I'm just quoting from this here rulebook ...]
Learn to know when to speak, when to listen and when to enjoy a nice warm cup of "STFU" and be all ears. For me, this is when, say, Spike or MH start talking Or, say, R00k because he has a deeper total knowledge of all aspects of Quake.
And stick up for what is right, even if it makes you unpopular. Lemme tell ya, this happens a lot. But people will respect you for it. But that isn't what is important. You have to look back and be able to respect yourself and ask yourself "Did you do the right thing?". Make sure you can pass that test.
Some people will hate you no matter what you do, make sure they hate you for the right reasons
But, of course, the one true measure of man --- and believe me this is a universal truth and time and time again it has been proven there are no exceptions to the rule --- does someone appreciate the "One True Quake".
If they don't appreciate the "Quake", they are no friends of mine.
I will speak no more on this matter. Unless I feel otherwise after drinking a few more of these refreshing beers.
Which is the final gem of wisdom: remember the value of beers. It is important to know that the caveman did not know this pleasure, due to a lack of techology. Revel in what he did not have.
