My opinion: Don't use Qt.

I looked at it once in depth, thought about it hard and in my opinion it is useless.

Here's why:

1. Qt cannot be what it aspires to be.
2. Makes Windows interfaces worse that Windows, Mac interfaces worse than Mac native too and the SDKs claim to support Mac but is really red-headed stepchild.

Qt exists in the imaginary Windows/Linux world. Maybe with Symbian (dead phone OS). You aren't going to be running Qt on an iPhone/iPad or Android device, so it isn't even multiplatform for devices, let alone I'd argue it isn't desktop multi-platform since it can't really do Mac.

So that means you are using a non-native GUI SDK for Linux.

If you personally run Linux, sure.

If you aren't running Linux and are running Windows, then why? Add major hassle for very sparse number of Linux desktop users and add hassles to your project by a factor of 20 in doing so?

Qt was a noble idea, but you can't beat a native user interface and Qt isn't simple. Maybe for pure Linux use it is good idea ... I don't know.

/One opinion, I'm just describing why I considered it, researched it and decided against it.

I'd generally agree, Baker. For my purposes, though, it's unfortunately necessary. I'm building a multi-platform plugin for QGis, which is, itself, an open-source, multi-platform application.

I think I've FINALLY figured out my problem: an impossibly obscure class inheritance/constructor rule in Python. I can't believe this is what just ate my last 14 work hours.
