  • Spare The Mod

I found this a few weeks ago and I thought it was very interesting. In short, this paper asserts that commercial modding has grounds to claim fair use and that total conversions should be counted as a non-derivative work.

If you're a casual modder or even a full-on developer this may interest you.

A well written piece with good references, and I completely agree.

The legal aspects of the game industry are mile deep in paper... so much so, that the developers themselves must tread carefully

When I was working for Griptonite Studios, we spent a week creating our own font for a game (legally can't say which) and then got sued by a European company that had a similar font saying we stole it.

A great find, Pixel! I gave you some Rep for that one
+Rep! I'm going to the top!
