  • Please Help - Unable to Start Server -

    Hey guys,

    I'm trying to support the community and I already have an Arena Server running.

    I'm trying to get my CTF and TF server running but I'm running into problems.


    For my CTF server, I keep getting the error unable to load ctfstart.bsp, It appears that its not searching the ctf folder I created even tho when I start the server I've enabled -game ctf and within the server.cfg I'd added sv_gamedir ctf

    **The server even announces that it doesnt recognize the command sv_gamedir**

    For some reason its stuck on only reading the id1 folder.

    I have the same problem with my TF server.

    I've wasted 4 hours and I've hit a wall..

    I've downloaded the CTF files from your site but your TF link is broken but I found it else where.

    Any help would be much appreciated!!

    You didn't specify which quake engine you are using as a server, and I'm no CTF expert [Monty looks at Mindz/Rook ], but assuming you are using something like Proquake and have physical .bsp map files if you add -game gamefolder on the command line that will usually be sufficient to load the mod. At that point if you put the missing map(s) in quake\id1\maps and restart your server do the maps load?

    The above method worked for me on a Painkeep server but like I say I'm a CTF newb so it may or may not work.

      I believe its a Proquake server for linux.

      Yea, If I put the maps in the id1 folder they load, but then it doesnt load the mod, it's just basic quake and I run around with a shotgun.

      Any ideas?

      Also,

      Does anyone have a working link for teamfortress 2.8? Not the install file that has FORTRESS inside, I've already found those.

          If I change the map in the server.cfg to e1m1 , then I get the following error:

          FindFile: can't find progs/star.mdl
          Host_Error: Could not load progs/star.mdl
          ERROR: Host_Error: Could not load progs/star.mdl

              Ok if you HAVE correctly download the ctf files, made a ctf folder, used the correct -game ctf etc etc, my only suggestion is to actually open those pak files, and look at the actual files names. Why? Because you are using LINUX, and linux differentiates uppercase from lowercase filenames. The config/mod might be looking for ctfstart.bsp but the pak file might be CTFStart.bsp etc..
