  • The ability to "throw the flag"

If you would like me to clarify something, do not hesitate to ask... CTF is already a good game, but I think that it does have the potential to become even better... It would be nice if players had the ability to "throw the flag". It would be kinda like a basketball game... Players would quickly pass the flag to their teammates. Instead of throwing a ball, they would throw a flag. Yes, it would be a risky move, since the flag could be intercepted by the other team. But I think that it would speed up game-play even further.

    Also:

CTF should have "gambling plays". It's kinda like an on-side kick in football or an empty net in hockey. If you are trailing by a few points, you are allowed to instantly teleport yourself to the enemy base. But you would have to sacrifice one player. (i.e.: One person cannot play for two minutes. He/she can watch the game, but he/she cannot play).

I used to play a game on xbox360 called far cry: predator. It had a CTF mode where you could throw the flag. Additionally, it had a sweet map editor, and I played a few custom-made creations where your team actually had to work together by passing the flag because of the layout of the map, or else you couldn't capture it.

What if the flag was your only weapon while you are in possession of it? Basically make it to where your goal is to avoid conflict, sorta add a stealth element to the game.

Kind of like a mix of Halo's Oddball and conventional CTF? Melee with the 'flag' or whatever the object is would be a 1-hit kill or something, but that's provided you get close enough to the enemy without getting your ass shot off.

No offense, but I gotta give you my opinion... That would be lame. It would be boring, because it would slow down game-play. Basically, only two people would have weapons (since there would only be two flags). But when you mentioned "stealth element", I was a little bit confused. What exactly do you mean? Stealth?

I think what he meant is if you're holding the flag, then the flag is your weapon. So you can't hold a firearm, just the flag. If you don't have the flag, standard rules apply.

By stealth I mean that the flag is an incredibly shitty weapon so your best strategy is to run with it and avoid conflict. BUT I just realized that there is maybe a flaw to this. I've never bothered to play CTF so, I don't know if you just have to capture it or if you have to capture it and bring it back to your side. If it's the latter then yeah, your best bet is to avoid conflict. If it's the former then never mind.

I used to play a CTF mod server with some clan guys a few years back. They were pretty cool guys, I think their clan name was ZAP or something? Maybe they're still around but I think the server shut down. Anyway, yeah you had to bring the flag back to capture it, and your flag had to be at the base, which was fun because if it wasn't your team had to really coordinate defense and offense simultaneously.

There's always speedball on a CAx server.

I don't think my idea is all that terrible. It reminds me of playing DEMO in SOCOM (somewhat). While you had the bomb you couldn't get a full run going and while you were placing the bomb you were completely defenseless for 3 or 5 seconds, I forget which.

This is not that much different. While you have the flag you have a gun (instead of run) handicap which makes you almost defenseless for the entire time you are holding it. It's kinda like having the bomb and planting the bomb all smooshed into a more mobile idea.

Yes, MG, in speedball, it's kinda like CTF/rugby/soccer

the ball spawns somewhere in the middle of the map, one team's goal is at the start the other's at the end. The premise is to carry the ball to the other team's goal, (reverse of ctf). Though players carrying the ball cannot use any weapons. IF they switch to a weapon the ball drops. Also the ball carrier runs slower than normal by 20%..

So, no your idea isnt terrible

rage.quakeone.com has speedball, all you do is connect to the server type SPEEDBALL in console and it will switch modes.

Speedball sounds exactly like Demolition. Well, almost. In demo you could still shoot cause the bomb was on your back, and of course demolition ends in an explosion. Demolition was my favorite mode to play in FTB1. I stayed on the leader boards for that mode. Usually within the top 10. It was really helpful that I had a mic though. I don't think I would have done as good as I did if I couldn't coordinate my team.

It was inspired by UT2004 bombing run mode, yes.

Sounds really neat, but it seams like it would change the style of play CTF already has to offer.

Speedball is an inkling more team-oriented than CTF,in CTF ,if you're a bad ass morning star user you can effectively be a one-man-operation,killing the flag carrier, returning enemy flag to your base, but Speedball requires the equivalent a footballs line of scrimmage to protect the QB or a blocker of sorts for your wide recievers.

Trying to be 1 man showing in Speedball and you'll fail miserably everytime, unless you're just that good and your competition just sucks that bad,the only way thats even remotely possible is in 1v1 which completely rips out team gameplay all together. Maybe speedball could afford a 1v1 flavor, where if server see's 1v1 you're allowed to carry ball AND shoot, but in team based Speedball the normal rules apply.

Lots of 1v1 goes on lately in CAx.
