  • High quality textures, does the license allow...

In The Dark Mod forum a discussion started about Egyptian themed missions.

The main problem is the lack of assets, there I remembered that in Quake Mission Pack 2 --Dissolution of Eternity-- are some Egyptian themed levels and webangel released some incredibly good assets for it. The thread is here (now locked). The links there are dead but the Quake epsilon project still has a easy-to-download copy.

I was wondering, it would be possible to use such assets in a free mission in The Dark Mod (of course with credits and proper references)?

If I understood correctly the licence is "Creative commons public license" and it does allow it. But I ask here to be sure.

Contradiction is truth. Fear is freedom. Rights are privileges. Job is a commodity. Ignorance is strength.

If you want to be safe of legal issues those textures should probably be considered derivative works of the originals! Thus they might not have been legally placed under free licenses. I would suggest looking for textures that were created from scratch or from free materials.

what is there to bump? the answer is no. the textures are works derivitive of the quake assets.
anyone open sourcing textures derivitive of closed copyright all rights reserved works, does not have the authority to do so. As spirit already stated.
