  • Demo section

My brother and I had an idea. I know we have this media forum for pics/demos/etc., but it can be a little tough to navigate and find stuff.

How about if you had an actual demo section in the download area where people could upload/download old demos that they have stored away on their hdd/cd/disks?

I know my brother and I personally have a ton of demos from the old school days. I think it's funny sometimes to load them up and watch how bad I was ... and still am.

Plus, it could help bring back names of people we all used to play with and bring up discussions about games and old times.

    Just an idea.

It isn't a bad idea, but the demos would all need to be compressed in the .dz format. The file size of demos are unnecessarily huge.

This is one of the reasons the beta of the ProQuake Launcher converts all demos to .dz format and can also cause ProQuake to play .dz format demos as well (despite the fact ProQuake doesn't natively have this capability, heh). Qrack and JoeQuake can natively play .dz format demos.

One thing to watch out for, though: most demos are boring.

maybe u could include some demo editing tools in a future update for the launcher so ppl can cut out the intresting bits out of their (old) demo's more easilly.. (i.e. just the cool/funny bits)

      edit:
or for that matter maybe write a guide on how to do so and include that in the mentioned demo section of quakeone.com

Editing demos is a painful thing:

        Keygrip Demo Editor

        http://www.fileplanet.com/hosteddl.a...fkeygrip16.zip

Someone else who used to edit demos used Film At Eleven, although I thought this demo editor was weird.

or for that matter maybe write a guide on how to do so and include that in the mentioned demo section of quakeone.com
I will add those to the files section, lest they drop off of the face of the earth.

Rocketguy has made a specific page for just uploading Quake demos. You can upload as many demos as you want there, zipped or not.
