  • Quake sound used again in tv show

I thought this was fucking awesome, because the noise that a Zombie makes at the start of the Demo1 just as the guy turns the corner?

Well, they totally fucking used that sound as a god damned BEAR?!

    A BEAR?! SERIOUSLY ? A BEAR?????

Zombie sound occurs at 1:23 , and the video source allows you to skip ahead and seek to the point it happens. lulzuzlzuzlzuzluzlzuz

I've listened to it like 5+ times now, and now all I want to know,is who the hell is the Quake fan in the production department.

I've noticed "Quake" sounds and "Half-Life" sounds in quite a few TV shows and a few movies.

I'm rather sure id Software licensed them as a sound effects library so in that way they aren't really "Quake" sounds, but sounds that happen to be in Quake.

The main ones I hear: the zombie sound, lift/doors/button sounds.

          I never bothered with half-life.

I consider the place of origin and then continue calling them quake sounds.

Sorry to bump, but I felt the need to post. Those things you posted were fucking boss. I love hearing those kinda of things in the media, but I've definitely never heard anything from quake.

Wow, both the Quake Zombie sound, and the Half-Life Bullsquid breathing sound at the same time. That's weird.

I know they are from general libraries, but still weird.

That network/channels tons of shows air on,and a few others are the ones who are exploiting the shit out of these sounds / and when I hear the zombie's like on the opening Demo of Quake when the player turns the corner and snags the GL / blows them up. They are everywhere on certain channels with these rag tag reality what ever you wanna call it (I call it filler bs,shit I'll watch when nothing else is on) lol.

Yes, the sad fact is that millions or billions of people watched those shows and probably less than 1,000 people knew that those sounds was NOT what those animals sounds like. Whenever I find these Quake sounds lurking in TV shows I want to share them but as you can tell,it would get tedious as they use them fn constantly to be some obscure animals, but really... If fn critter 1 makes that sound, why would critter 2 make that sound. lol? epic fail.

It's from the series 6000 general collection, a commercial sample library used everywhere in professional sound production in the last few decades. That library contains much more than just the very few Quake sounds. You're bound to encounter these sounds everywhere because everyone producing anything containing sounds uses that library.

Theoretically this could be used to give us 100% faithful hi-quality Quake sound replacements (the original samples were downsampled to 8 bit 11kHz to save space). The problem is that a video game license of that collection is too expensive for anyone here to fund (even if we had a Quake license), and id probably isn't interested.

Anyway, the Quake sounds were not all lovingly handcrafted by Trent Reznor, they were just lifted off the most common sample library available.

Edit: They have audio demos from the library on their page, you'll hear the Quake explosion sound about a minute into it as well as lift etc sounds.
