  • Reflex.... A.K.A Arena

    Well i Stumbled upon this

If you sunk countless hours in to the Quake or Unreal series, Reflex will feel like a welcome return of the old school shooter feel. If you didn't experience classic arena FPS gameplay, you should immediately reclaim all those unwasted years by grabbing a copy of Reflex.

Hunt through complex maps filled with jump pads, teleporters and tempting looking rocket jumps and gather weapons, items and powerups.
Bunny hop and double jump around until you see something to shoot, then splatter that something all over the walls with a rocket launcher.
Over 10 game modes including Free-For-All, Capture the Flag and Team Deathmatch.
Designed for "easy to learn, hard to master" gameplay -- there will always be new strategies to devise and new trick jumps to find.
Fancy, in-game map and replay editing tools (included with every version).
Matchmaking, ranking, regional ladders, player created ladders -- both public and private.
Custom built engine that contains everything we need and nothing we don't.

We're on Kickstarter right now, the faint terror of hitting the launch button still coursing through our veins. We're aiming to be on Steam Greenlight before the end of the campaign and to have builds in players hands early next year.

Despite this being the first time we've reached out to the gaming press, we've already built ourselves a dedicated following of esports event organizers, twitch streamers (and employees!), freakishly good professional FPS players and a big group of people who are tired of aiming down generic rifle sights at grey on grey targets.

Reflex is being developed by Turbo Pixel, a small, independent, Australian team formed by gamers with a simple desire: to use decades of game development experience to bring back the gameplay and the community we grew up with.

We're pretty open about our plans for gaming world domination so if you have any questions, comments or want to get your hands on a very-early-but-surprisingly-unbuggy playable build, feel free to get in touch.

Constant turbo mode turns me off. Also pretty much kills the fun of 'hunting' if you're going to be be flitting about at those speeds.

While the concepts look fine, and the game looks playable enough, I'm not sure what the selling point is - how does this stand out from the crowd?

Warsow, for example, has the special moves, comicky visuals and zany humour. It also has the weak ammo/strong ammo thing. When you play Warsow, it's very obvious what game it is.

Reflex looks a little generic currently, by which I mean, no stand-out visual setting or theme and no unique gameplay maneuvers as far as I can see. It looks literally like Quake with extra graphics, even more so than Xonotic.

But then, I don't know much about this kind of game. It might be exactly what people want, for all I know.
