        Doom 4 looks like shit. It's slow, and is basically Doom 3 all over again. The shoddy forge knockoff is npt to "promote user created content" but a mere opportunity for Bethesda/ZeniMax to control all content associated with their game, effectively killing the modding scene that the game has the potential to offer. The graphics look nice now, but they are mere bullshots in comparison to what is actually going to be released. Screencap this shit right now, I don't want to have to be the one to say I told you so. There's also that stupid weapon wheel that slows gameplay down briefly, creating a much more casual experience. The shotgun looks unsatisfying, and the super shotgun looks, decent. The chainsaw looks annoying to use, and I imagine seeing the same canned animations over and over again will get boring, as it does interrupt the gameplay. Also, speaking of canned animations, finishers, in MY DOOM? At least those are optional animations. They're pretty cool, but I imagine the game flow will be severely altered in a negative way.

        Fallout 4 added a bunch of popular mods to their game without giving any credit in attempts to create an environment that seems to have a full glass' worth of content, so that users will not need to have mods in their game. This brings me to my next point. You're high if you think they are going to permit mods in any of these games (which is funny due to how famous these series are for user generated content.) After that paid mods fiasco with Steam, they want paid mods or no mods at all. Without paid mods they cannot control the content their userbase produces, which means they also cannot monetize this said content that is produced. The game also seems to be going back to a Fallout 3 style (which is bad because believe it or not Fallout 3 is a painfully mediocre game in comparison to not only it's predecessors, but to New Vegas as well, a fantastic game. I am being 100% objective with this, the gameplay and pacing is lacking in the game, and at the end of the day it's painfully flawed.) I cannot confirm myself, so take the followign with a grain of salt, but from an analysis I saw, Fallout 4 allegedly lacks a skill system, and instead has "ranking." Not sure how it works though.

        Argue with all you want about Bethesda and the mod scene, but it is painfully obvious that they are trying to halt the mod scene, as it is not in the favor of the suits and investors. I am not complaining about more content being in a game when released, I wish that games had the level of content that they used to before cut content and on disk DLC existed, however, I am not turned on to the fact that the only reason they are adding this content in the first place is so that people won't WANT mods proper, and they can control all content flow for their games, however they want, and you bet your ass that there will be a "nominal fee" for their "services" in there somewhere.

        Who knows, I could be wrong.

        I'm usually not though, when it comes to the modern games industry and it's heinous anti-consumer practices.

          I don't understand how people say it looks like Doom 3, Doom 3 was a dark corridor shooter. This is a lot more open and faster.

            Because of its history Doom falls into a love or hate category I'm afraid. I just love playing games. People get so caught up in the bells and whistles that they forget to have fun IMO.

              I actually enjoyed Doom 3. It's a reasonably fun game with impressive tech to back. Also, Hell is awesome. Comparing it to Doom 3 is the only way to covey my point. It's impressive tech, and it MIGHT have decent gameplay, but I am sincerely doubting any form of level design, a problem with most modern games. Make no mistake the Id you love is gone. There is not a single person left that was there originally. Now you have bitches with pink hair working on DOOM, and you know that's a bad sign. I can only imagine that Quake is next to get the shit bullet.

              Also have fun with nomods. My friend actually made this picture as a joke about what will happen to Quake. Introducing, Quake Snapmap!

              It's still pretty slow mate. Go back and play Doom and you might understand. I have honestly always liked Quake more, but the difference is irrefutable. I see no point in being excited for something like this. Day 1 pirate for interesting tech if you're into that kind of thing, but purchasing something like this is foolish beyond a reasonable doubt. Fallout, as I explained earlier might be a decent game, but has evil premonitions attached to it regarding the future of modding. We already live in an era where mod support is dying out en masse, and I fear that Bethesda/Zenimax is setting a negative example for the rest of the AAA industry with their content control system.

                Doom 4: It's gonna sell well because it looks cool, because it has gore and dismemberment, and because the weapons remind of modern FPS games.

                Movement seems to be slow for a shooter, and yeah, the effects / canned animations seem to slow down combat. The chainsaw used to be one of the best weapons in the original Doom, because it was fast, and it was even a good weapon in Doom 3. Not sure about the chainsaw here. Seems like the shotgun kills monsters more effectively than the chainsaw does.

                Monsters drop loot and the doomguy can now platform a little, which is cool in my book, but that's not really Doom.

                Not really too many monsters on the screen at the same time, seems about comparable to some of Doom 3's multi-enemy fights. Art style reminescent of Doom 3, except levels are a little more spacy (or are the spacey parts all parts you can't even get to?) Seemed somewhat linear as well.

                Not much vertical or multi-directional combat, and I didn't see him strafing and dodging projectiles a whole lot.

                Probably a Doom for the Call of Duty generation.

                Then again, it's just an E3 demo reel, and the actual game might play differently.

                Looks like Doom 3 had faster combat than this, which is surprising after all their back-to-basics talk.

                Please look at the amount of dodging the player has to do in this Doom 3 video, and how many monsters come at him, and the tempo of combat. Even the movement seems faster, dangit.

                    Here's a longer version that has some of the new Hell. There's also a new level creation system called "snapmap" that allows you to piece together levels from modular rooms, apparently. perhaps a good way to allow mapping for a modern game, since from scratch would be too difficult for most people by now.

                    I still think the new Hell looks like Masters of the Universe. I expect to see Skeletor in one of the next trailers.

                      I'm sure that when it is released, doom will satisfy. it, to me, did look basic and d3 ish, but considering it has quite a ways to go before release, I'm not too worried.

                        I liked Doom3, and I won't judge Doom4 until I played it myself.

                        The video doesn't look bad imo. The melee-finishing-move animations are a bit consolish imo, but k. I agree on most of what gb said, but I wouldn't call the combat shown in that video of M22 'typical' for Doom3. Imo, the gameplay of D3 changed quite a bit throughout the game, and the later maps contained more and more action instead of sneaking through dark corridors being afraid of enemies who could show up. M22 is definitely one of the action maps of Doom3.

                          I think it's because the person playing is using a controller and not sprinting often, even then I don't mind it.

                            Controller has nothing to do with it. Doom was played with a keyboard and was still fast and fluid. He wasn't running much because "muh cinematic experience" bullshit, but when he did, it was still very slow.

                              its faster than doom 3, on average, from what i can see. i don't expect it to be as fast as doom 1+2, because that kinda speed is ridiculous. if people want the classic doom experience...play classic doom. many people have this fantasy of an emulation of classic doom mechanics with current gen graphics, and there is no way that will happen 100%. im just happy ID-soft is making a conscious effort to move into that direction.
