  • Doomsday Engine is the most advanced Doom-like engine on the internet. It supports glows, and in future, in 2.0 release (hopefully in 2011) realtime lightning...

    Nice! the engine is really better than 1.13! i like the normalmap loading! so i write some impressions:
    - Scaling 2d menu is ugly because you have not choice of scaling (try to add 2x 3x 4x scaling)
    - When i use menu scaling, i notice a graphic bug, like an halo on my monitor (i use radeon HD4830 on PhenomIIx3)
    - Underwater colour is more yellow... why underwater is Yellow? O_O it's supposed to be less colorful and blue oriented...
    - add control for antialiasing powers (2x 4x 6x and so on) because slower pc may take advantage from this.
    - try to add some superficial movement to the water (like jshexen2 engine)
    - add LIT support for colored lightning.

    • alright, so on 2D scaling its current 1x or 2x, so I should add 3x and 4x then.
      I noticed that bug when turning on 2d scaling.. the bloom screws up.
      the more yellow-ish underwater color is also a bloom screw-up.
      I'll have a look at AA controls.
      What do you mean by superficial movement? ( you mean surface waves? )

      The engine already have LIT support... isnt it loading?

      • Did i miss something? You released UQE test build?
        Also what you think about to contact Baker and use this forum as or reference, instead making new forum (Ultimate Quake Engine - Forums • Index page)

        You Have Quake2 and HeXen2 works none for Quake1 and Quake3?
        So its ideal category for this Subforum. And its brings visitors and many who registered here. All who love Quake, probably love hexen2? or just can help with them.
        Here is good start i think than start from scratch.
        Also its affect everyone.
        I think its good idea. What you mind guys?

            Just another thought... if you cant see colored light, check that the following cvar have this value:
            gl_lightmapfmt "GL_RGBA"
            The LIT files should be in the folder "[base]/maps".

            Well, at the moment I'm re-writing the UQE website, so I cant update it at the moment with BETA download links. If you would like to test out UQE 1.14, send me a PM with your email addy and I'll email it to you.

            You could ask Inkub0 to send you a copy as well.
            Its not marked as a BETA, but its VERY VERY BETA... don't see it as a final version.

            • I'm still searching for a tutorial to add transparency to a normalmap with a bumpmap (possibly in Photoshop CS4).... it will be great on UQE when parallax mappping will be supported!

                • Look i found one more project aims same like FTEQW but this is in early stage
                  vQuake | Download vQuake software for free at SourceForge.net doesnot have binaries but have source code -> https://vquake.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/vquake/
                  vQuake is a Quake engine source port with support for Quake, Hexen 2, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena. Main goal is to create a common rendering engine for all of these games and extend it further.

                    • engines don't work :/

                      I run GNU/Linux x64, and can't seem to find a way to use your textures

                      I can't get FTEQW to work, it just segaulfts.

                      jsHexen seems to be Windows only (and I can't find where he keeps his source, a big problem considering it needs to be available to comply with GPL).

                      UQE is also Windows only.

                      I guess I will have to reboot to enjoy your work :/

                        • I have no clue what segaulfts means, but please try this link:
                          FTE nightly builds

                          FTE is a multiplatform engine and can run linux,
                          I am quite sure because it is listed there.
                          But i am a linux noob.

                          Simply try the latest build on the above link.

                          Hope it helps.

                              segfault = Segmentation Fault, a memory access error. It generally occurs when a binary has been compiled against different versions of libraries than the ones found on your computer (or if you are missing a library).

                              I did try to compile it, downloading the newest source from SVN. Unfortunately it does not compile. It looks like the developer has not taken much time to make the source code portable to other machines, as there is no use of autoconf, which would at least notify me of which libraries are missing that cause compilation to fail.

                                I think so, as yours is the best looking engine by far!

                                And it would satisfy the provisions of the GPL that state you need to offer source when you offer binaries.
