  • I'm not too concerned about older systems... tech older than 2003.
If the card supports Shader Model 2 (SM2) then you know the standards are pretty good and most of the OpenGL extensions you are targetting should be very likely available.

My thinking on the ATI side for example is that anything 9700 and up should be more than sufficient.

I know the engine can run on very old hardware, bit I don't see much point writing code today (2010) to stress about tech thats probably not used much AND you don't know for sure if your code works.

    bottom-line: less bugs, less bloat.

    • Hey guys,

I'll be off with some much needed leave (R&R) and I'll probably only be online again in early to mid November. Needsless to say, I'll be working on finishing up UQE 1.14 and polishing it up.

I'm going to Cape Town (South Africa) and also climb Table Mountain and maybe visiting Robben Island in this time... today is the last day I'm going to be online for the next 4 weeks.

                • inkub0, dont worry, all ok

If you wish, i release today or tomorrow new build.
There no big and major changes, but added models and shadows interpolation (left only mover brushes to interpolate), and remaked chrome effect (fully proper work with brushes, movers and player weapons, but still need some work for different entities).

but i think that you must release when you think it's time to do it...

                    • I suppose is be just ordinary nightly build.
Now i solve smooth mover brushes by very easy way.
Left only chrome for rotating entities and moving monsters.

For next task i release last old-systems compatible jsH2 and try see for per-pixel lighting and parallax mapping.

but this is useless without RTLIGHTS...

                          • I just learned from a friend in this forum, that you do NOT need rtlights
if you want to have per-pixel lighting.

You can use .dlit files for per-pixel-lighting and .lit files for colored lights.

But this is not yet confirmed by a coder.
Maybe Spike can say something about it.

There are tools available that create .dlit and .lit files for you.
                            example: hmap form LordHavoc.

                              • I noticed that many effects are available with .lit and .DLIT files, yes, but the final result is quite different.

Using BSP lights as RTLIGHTS is a right way to kill your GPU =)
and the final effect is ugly :/

I hope in the skills of all you coders!!!
