I've a huge liking for the UQE projects. To my mind they're doing a similar kind of thing to what I'm doing with DirectQ - junk the legacy stuff and modernise it!

Guys, I am sorry for a really dumb and noob question. Is Hexen II engine that much differs from Quake? Could someone take Darkplaces and adapt it to work for Hexen II? I don't need to say how awesome that would be. Or am I wrong?

I could look at updating the engine to have some extra effect for underwater warping to simulate the software engine, but look at the effect I've implemented in UQE Hexen II first. Maybe in a next release I could add an extra effect on top of that, if required.

UQE Hexen II already supports overbrighting.

Thanks MH, I'm also a fan of your work on MHQuake and your newer DirectQ project since the days of QuakeSRC.

What GPU you got there?
If possible, do you know what OpenGL version it supports?

One thing you can do in the meanwhile is to turn the framebuffer off and see if you can play the game.

On the console: "gl_framebuffer 0"
If you cant get there, try adding it to the CFG file.

I'll do some testing on older hardware here and see what happens.

I've fixed that problem by detecting if your GPU can compile shaders. It seems yours doesn't have proper support for it (guessing). UQE will now automatically turn off shader functionlity if it find your GPU doesn't support the needed OpenGL extensions or can't compile shaders.

UQE won't have that nasty pop-up in such an event.
The binary has been tweaked, all you need to do to fix this is just replace the engine EXE with the updated one and delete your config.cfg files in the "data1" and "portals" folders and you should have a better startup experience.

UQE Hexen II got tweaked today. I added lightmap overbright rendering. I decided to add this since I removed the software renderer and I know that the OpenGL renderer's lightmapping looks pretty flat at spots that should be brighter.

With the addition of overbright lighting this finally brings the OpenGL onto par with the lighting accuracy the software renderer posessed.

Check out the updated documentation on how to turn it on and off. This new feature is on by default.

And i guess you already know it? Software rendered sky looks better than OpenGL.
If you get closer to sky surface in opengl mode you will notice it will look ugly, its subdivided to low polygons with bad displacement.
That fixed in darkplaces flawlessly.
