Anvil of Thyrion is obsolete; it has been succeeded by Hammer of Thyrion.

NewHexen is also obsolete afaik, replaced by UQE.

Update found vQuake
vQuake is a Quake engine source port with support for Quake, Hexen 2, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena. Main goal is to create a common rendering engine for all of these games and extend it further.

I would ask what is the best looking port for hexen 2? For best looking I dont mean a ubber port with bumpmaps, parallax and whatever mapping. But one that focuses in the GFX of the weapons and monsters.

That's one thing I always hated of Hexen2, how weak everything felt because their visuals are rather lame. I mean, even an oldschool quake explosion effect (simple square particles) looks better than what that game had to offer. Or what would be the most moddable one? to perhaps make a set of effects myself. Yeah, i want such a thing so bad...

Try them! Start with Hammer of Thyrion, which is the most faithful one, and then try things like UQE, jshexen2 and FTE with Inkub0's replacement textures etc.

The 1.07 hexen2 version can be builded by this way:
Install Hexen II from cd you will get 1.03 version
Install Hexen II Demo 0.42 this have 1.07 version internal (in console command "version" you will get 1.07)
Rename Hexen II Demo\data1\pak0.pak to pak2.pak
Copy All content from "Hexen II Demo" to "Hexen II" with overwriting and you will get hexen2 ver1.07 but original patch is still not found.
