  • DooM: What demon is the revenant derived from?

Ah, yes. DooM. The only game I know far better than Quake.

A question has popped in my head, as of late. The DooM manual revenant description states, "Apparently when a demon dies, they pick him up, dust him off, wire him some combat gear, and send him back into battle. No rest for the wicked, eh? You wish your missiles did what his can do."

So wait, a revenant is a reanimated demon corpse (not pinky), eh?

Does anyone have a good hunch on which demon it could be? Mine's on a dead archvile.
Who would win: a death knight, or a gremlin with a double-barrel?

me too, I'd say that none of the DooM bestiary actually matches the revenant and its entry in the manual is just an excuse (good enough though, I guess!) to include a big scary skeleton in-game!

Great to meet another DooM fan! Nice to meet you, Clatchford.

Yeah, I was sort-of thinking the same thing. Just like how some movies have things that weren't in the games.

ROME.RO Photos -- John Romero : Photo Keywords : revenant

This is from John Romero's site. The original design had no body armor.

Honestly due to the human skeleton. I'd say it's from a dead human based demon. So people who were sent to hell and all. Demons in many folklore appear human. So it could easily be a standard grunt you fought in DooM that was from hell instead of being possessed and when killed - returned to hell and was suited up to be a Rev.

            Excellent theory, OoPpEe.

Humanoid soldiers die, get sent to hell (or demons take 'em back to reanimate them), and are restructured into bony, bloody, towering terrors....

Honestly, this theory is pretty much spot-on. Also makes sense, due to the fact commandos (heavy weapon dudes), are salvageable human body parts mashed together into a bulky, demonic, super soldier.
