  • Skulltag's and ZDaemon's Invasion Mode... for Quake

This would make a great addition to Quake:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noTfDDsHR4k]ZDaemon TNS #77 - Invasion UAC Part 1 Highlights - YouTube[/ame]

Basically, it's a cooperative multi-player mode where you face off against waves of monsters. Once you run out of lives, you can't participate any further in that round.

I'm surprised this mod doesn't exist for Quake in some form.

this wouldnt be hard to do
one could randomly spawn a monster type at a spawn point
i mean like progressively starting with an easy set of monstersand a small amount and as each wave is completed add harder monster and more of them
finally having a horde of various monsters!

Make the monsters randomly spawn around the map so players have to explore before anew wave starts.

Or add runes that need to be collected and can only be obtained by finishing X amount of waves.

That sounds like Black Ops 2 zombies now

I think a straight port of Invasion to Quake would make more sense. Random groups of monsters would be better than simply one type of monster.

Also, Invasion in Zdaemon and Skulltag allows for custom boss fights, at least in Skulltag's version. That is not pictured in the video I posted earlier.

          Hello manwithnoname22,

Do you know all Quake mods ?
I think there are more Quake mods than one can think of.
Try Chips quakewiki page, to find many of them, but there are still more...

          In this special case:
The mod, that you are looking for has been made by ezzetabi last year: click me
It has that "wave of monsters" feature and some more very good ideas.

          The best thing:
ezzetapi constructed a way to play his mod on all existing single player maps.
He spawns the monster hordes either from original monster spawn points, or from their death point.

Have fun with this nice mod,
          Seven

PS: Even the "custom boss fight" that you mentioned is part from ezzetapis mod

R00k, it would probably make more sense to head on over to Zdaemon or Zandronum (formerly known as Skulltag), and ask them about it, since Invasion is still being maintained, and that ezzetapi guy's link no longer works:

                    Hello gnounc,

Yes, unfortunately ezzetapi´s stay lasted only 3 month.
But, when you read through his thread you will see the reasons.
Lack of interest for his work from the community was most probably one.
The Quake family is very small and modding for Quake is tricky, because as good as everything has been done before already...

But ezzetapi is a nice guy and he left his email address.
I will contact him and see if he can send me his final source.
It would be a pity if everything was lost.

                    Kind regards,
                    Seven

                    EDITED:
ezzetabi already replied to my mail.
All his webpage and code is still active, but he changed the URL.
So we will have access to his site/source soon.
                    Stay tuned.

Yes, I changed the page from http to https; so the address is now:
                      https://turing.lesalab.net:3333/iq/

The https key is self-signed so your browser will give you a warning. Do not worry, it is expected.

I don't think there was anything about Skulltag I disliked, it was just a great engine for Doom. I've only played the invasion mode a couple times, but it actually originates from an Unreal Tournament 2003 mod that was incorporated into an official mode for UT2004. From there it was turned into the UT2004 mod, Killing Floor that was later remade into an official game.

But yeah, Invasion mode has a pretty big history. Invasion for Quake?!

i always loved skulltag invasion-mode myself, ever since they implented it its been my fave game-mode in skulltag

talking about this made me excited to for fun try remaking a skulltag invasion map in quake.
here's what i got so far, its inv1: belphegor's glory, one of the official skulltag invasion-maps.

are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
                          > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread
