  • Re-assigning the hook

    Ive been trying to practice on schmack and am wanting to re-assign my hook (grapple) button to either "shift", "ctrl" or "mouse 3" but when I try to re-assign it in the console it does not recognize either of those keys. Is there a way to get it to recognize either of those keys?

    Thanks in advance.

    ps.....I have tried the ALIAS +GRAP blah, blah, blah.........and the BIND "key" +hook , and neither will accept any of those 3 keys.

    that's wierd. What engine are you running? OS?

      bind shift +hook

      I just tried this and tested it and it works just fine.

      You are using ProQuake/JoeQuake/QRack or DarkPlaces right?

        A SAFER version is to add quotation:

        bind "shift" "+hook";

            You shouldn't have to with SHIFT. You need quotes for certain keys like ";" and "'" I think. I remember running into some snags with that. Shift it shouldn't matter. Again, your problem makes no sense to me so I don't know how I can help you.

            Again what's ur OS and quake engine?

                      he probably just typed "bind" and then pressed his shift key instead of typing "shift". That's how it makes more sense to me.

                            Ok.....now that Ive got the hook figured out on multi-player servers. Is there a way to have the hook when you are linking up, via LAN, and be able to use the hook?

                              You'll have to run quake with a mod that has hook to enable that
