I used to play dm and ca and 3312 mod ctf.

I havent played for a really long time though. I haven't even had a computer in years till like a couple weeks ago.

1. what mods do people play and where can i find games?
2. Where can i find quake and a bunch of cool console commands and shit? I havent played in like 9 years... Did people redo quake or anything? whats the best stuff to use?

Anyways I've probably played like 10 times in the last 9 years and it was like 5 years ago.

I saw theres an interview with rampage? He's the most famous quake player now? wtf? I used to play him 1 on 1 all the time on dm6 for fun. I hope people still play. I used to be the bomb at this game. But I think the evolution of playing is probably crazy now. So I'm going to be owned like a bitch haha Anyways where does everyone play?

Download Newest PRoQuake to get familiar with Quake again, then When that doesnt work for u check out other engines.

The front page here has a server Browser, though it is kinda quiet at this time.

Multiplayer usually starts up again as football season comes into full swing. And then dies off around Dec.

Yo.. I found quake already. But i havent installed it or anything yet cause I haven't bought a mouse yet. And im not even going to try playing quake with the mouse on a laptop. I bet that would be hard as fuck.

Welcome back to playing Quake again! Always good to see another old veteran quake player. Tho not saying you are old. Let me try to point you in the right direction.

1. what mods do people play and where can i find games?

Well as far as multiplayer you of course have CTF (CrCTF and of course the one that tops them all.... Threewave's CTF)

Team Fortress of course! (TF, Custom TF)

Can't forget Runquake! Adds lots of cool new features and fun spin on regular deathmatch.

Then for some good DM fun CrMod if you want more or less vanilla DM experience with some extra features or go all out with CAx!! Coded in part by r00k a veteran quake QC Ninja! You can find him here on the forums at times. He is vcery helpful in getting these up and running if you want to setup a server or have any questions on the features beyond what the documentation has. This mod has many custom game modes, voting, map rotations, and is noob friendly. Also a really useful practice mode!

Note: None of the above you need to download. Just find a server a play!

As for some good coop action slackhead has a very good vanilla coop experience with mapvoting that you can join right now! His server is in Europe tho so expect some lag. But for coop very playable. Just type "connect r0t.co.uk:26001" to try it out!

As for less standard coop experiences I would recommend RQuake Team COOP.

Well for console commands try here for standard. That should handle most of the basic console commands. It will depend on which engine you choose.

Speaking of engines. Quake has lots to offer in this department.

These are my recommendations and they will be based mostly on what you want out of quake.

If you want the vanilla experience but compatibility on new hardware then you want one of these two.

DirectQ or ProQuake
NOTE: Not sure if that is the newest DirectQ.
They will run on modern hardware and give you the most authentic quake experience.
One that also provides a very vanilla experience but also some added features, supports bsp2, etc. You can't go wrong with QuakeSpasm! or Qrack! You have r00k also to thank for this gem!

But now for my fav engines! I am a massive Darkplaces fan! This has lots of particles effect changes, light and shadow effects, realtime lighting, etc. Too many features to name here. It is one of the best engines I have used so far for quake. It also supports QW and Netquake protocols for net play. It's truly an all in one. Grab it here

But I cannot forget to give a shoutout to FTE!! It's an amazing engine and my next pick if you want a truly eye candy experience next to DP. They both have many of the same features. But FTE can do a few more interesting things. Like run Hexen 2. And you want a Quake 2 engine? This can do that too! Tho I believe it doesn't have mission pack support for QII. This is a very impressive engine and a community member here named Spike put this amazing thing together and is always able to answer any questions you have about it! He's quite a guy!

If you want to get a good pack together of all the cool HD improvements that have been made over the years then I would suggest Quake HD Pack or Epsilon. These will give you everything in an all in one download. But if you want to build your quake hd experience then look no further than talisa's post here! It has all of them listed! And you can download which ones you want. Most of them from community members right here! Including the talented Talisa!

And we can't forget about the amazing Seven and his Small Mod Compilation! It's in its 5th version! It will almost completely change your Quake experience or not. It's very customizable! So you can turn on and off whatever features you want or don't want. You'll love it! All of these HD features tho do require decent specs on your machine.


As far as playing Quakeone.com has as very useful server browser on the home page on the right side bar. I recommend checking out those servers! Also grab the map packs for them! That will save you a lot of download time! Also r00k has a nice little collection here. And bigfoot has one here!
