  • Abyss Of Pandemonium, no ammo?

Did anyone play Abyss Of Pandemonium, the third commercial (now free) Quake expansion?

Since it is the only commercial expansion I never finished I wanted to give a try again. I am in level 5, "The dark palace" and I constantly run out of ammo and I need to evade enemies... I am not sure if is intended, I am playing Hell.

Did you have a similar experience?

    you're playing on HELL skill....
and you're wondering if game is supposed to be difficult?
    .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
    > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread

you could try just running past the monsters without bothering to kill them all.
or do the shambler dance and axe everything to death. :s
      or depend upon infighting.
and do this on earlier maps so you still have some ammo left.

or just switch to coop mode.
      or depend upon save-spam.
      *technically* these are not cheats...

Yes, Spike... but I am playing the game after long time (and I never finished it anyhow) to do techniques like to ignore certain monsters need to know the level a bit.

Perhaps I should play the levels twice once on Normal, once in Hell... Oh well....

I noticed the Spirit page has no music. I have a copy of the musics (and possibly still the original cd somewhere), do you think he'll be interested?

ezzetabi, you know that most additional maps are a lot more difficult than original quake.
So playing on highest skill is not always the best approach.
While talking about it, there is this unofficial patch for AoP = http://quakeone.com/148855-post16.html It adds full mouse wheel support. You can scroll through your weapons up and down with it. Original code seems to miss this feature. It makes the game a bit easier I think because you can switch weapons more efficient now.
AoPs music can be found here = https://www.quaddicted.com/files/music/impel_music.zip It is ogg format.

@Henry, perhaps you are right I do not actually like Nightmare behavior too much (I like enemies also walk around, not just shooting) perhaps I should simply play Hard...

I do have the music too, I was wondering if Spirit does. It seems so

Edit: it seems it is a problem only for levels 4 and 5... now, it seems normal.

              Edit(2): Done. Piece of cake.

Personally I think that every skill setting needs to give the player enough health and ammo. It's a shooter game, so running out of ammo runs counter to what the player is supposed, and expects, to do.

Running out of health makes it impossible for the player to play the game, too.

Both of these are signs of bad game design because they directly counteract what you want the player to do in your game.

Well, it is hard to say. When the amount of ammo or health is not enough? It can simply be you do not play good enough...

Do ANYONE actually finished A Roman Wilderness of Pain in the Hell difficulty level?

i've played ARWoP on hell difficulty, and i managed to get through the whole map-set.

by the end i sadly didnt have enough ammo left to be able to take on the cyberdemon though
                      .
