  • Win 98 for quake

Yea, I know it's an old OS, but I'm thinking of installing it on my VM on my Mac to play quake since it is a 32 bit operating system and I have looked around the web for workarounds and this is in my mind makes the most sense. Anyone done this? I looked for an XP OS Amazon and nothing came up. There are some for win 98. Good idea or bad idea? Just wondering. Want to relive some of the quake fun I had back in college.

just grab a mac port of quake. they do exist.
or recompile any sdl2 port for mac yourself, if they don't provide mac binaries (grr at needing a mac to compile any).

Can confirm, Darkplaces works just fine on a Mac. I've spent the last 3 or 4 years playing Quake on a Mac with Darkplaces.

Ok. Cool! I am a little dense on this subject. I have a newer mac without the dvd drive, but I guess that is not an issue. So do I just download a version of Quake 1 for Mac and darkplaces for mac? I think I tried this last year and could not get it to work to play multiplayer online. If you can point me in the right direction in the forum or other website that has some online help I would appreciate it very much! Thank you and have a nice day! Yea, back in my college days at TCU my callsign was quasimoto! Loved quake1, but the other versions of quake were dog crap. just my opinion.

Well I'd love to help you get set up. Just shoot me a PM with your skype name, or steam name, or e-mail or I can just reply here. Only think is some explination may be a lil' in depth and wordy.

(BTW sending a PM to me through e-mail is quicker than PM just through the site)
