I've become accustom to being let down by Id software though, so when it doesn't happen it won't be like I expected anything more, my expectations are already extremely low.
I feel the same way man, especially with Rage which just ended out of the blue. Though I have been impressed with all the post Q1 Wolfenstein games, except the design of New Order (Old Blood was a superb improvement however).

Anyway, I still have a shred of hope that we will be getting some sort of Quake announcement for the 20th anniversary. If not, id is dead to me!

Have you read all the Lovecraftian books or know all about the lore surrounding them? I'm sure there is way more available than what Quake1 provided, but I know nothing about Lovecraft stuff. I just know that its a thing.

I am a really big fan of Lovecraft (this is not something original hhahaha)
In this year my favorite game is bloodborne, I finish it days ago and I really love the design of the monsters and maps, very lovecraftian style, if quake was done today I do not mind if I have a similar design, as detailed. Maybe not as "Victorian" i think will be more "medieval" (no, don not think in any "souls" game, bloodborne is really lovecraftian). But the next quake must be Lovecraftian.

I think what made 90s games good was that each one was unique and they were different from each other.

For quake, I would like to see that uniqueness return or at least stick to the uniqueness of the original quake and not for everything to look like they are wearing huge suits of armor, have big, guns.. etc. and levels that look mostly the same..

Quake had elegance and simplicity, yet an uniquely crafted environment. I'm not sure if it was intended this way or it just came out by accident lol, and I can't tell, but only speculate, since only id would know lol

But yea, a return to uniqueness.. I deff. support that lol Maybe gamers should tell that to id or bethasda or what remains of this company that once made such a gaming timepiece

The gemstone of gaming is Quake, so load it up and play some

I think 'In the Shadows' is perfectly mapped. I personally like when root meets doorway or dirt meets stone into a bridge. Quake needs to corner the market of low-poly 3d grit genre again.

We're not gonna get a new quake anytime soon. Now, we know that Id has two teams working there, One is working on DOOM 4 and the other project is unannounced. Could that be a new Quake game or a new IP?

I dunno with you other guys, but I kinda wish Id would release games in a timely manner. As of now, this decade we're gonna get 2 games out of Id. RAGE and DOOM 4. my problem with Id software is that they make a new engine for every new game they release, which isn't very efficient at all. They really should stick with 1 engine for 2-3 games and move on to another one.

Well, their business was making engines and selling them and it actually made lots of sense.
After Quake it kinda looked to me they forgot how to make games, but still they were good at making engines.

Romero left, Carmack stayed. Your statement makes sense in that capacity =P

I am aware of that. Of course I am not informed enough to give a sure answer, but it really seems that Romero leaving is connected to the degrading of the games quality.

I still remember how I was unimpressed by Quake 2, how I was shocked by the lack of SP (MP with bots does not count!) in Quake 3, and how Doom3 looked as a great tech demo more than a game.
In particular the latter was pretty much missing Hell itself... I really remember playing feeling: "another base level? come on... when I go to hell?" again and again.

Sure, I played them all anyway. But the test of time has been won only by Quake for me.
