    A Farewell
Posted On: Fri, 2007-01-12 23:12 by Bank

Some of you may have noticed that in the last several months, there has been little to no activity from me. I suppose I'm to explain myself.

I've been slowly growing away from Quake and the community for a while. Between people I can't stand and some outside sources I really had a difficult time. Bank, as far the Quake community goes, was dying.

It was difficult but I brought myself to delete all of my bookmarks and move more and more away from the internet, I may have returned but it is certainly not the same. Several romantic problems, a death, and general unhappiness filled that gap between when I left and now and I don't think that I could return to the Quake community with any sort of certainty. It just wouldn't work out.

I've had some great friends among the Quakers, most of you in that group. But I suppose it's time for me to retire. If you'd like to keep in touch, I'd be glad to talk to you, but I can't make any promise to be around the community.

It's really been a great run, and I never would have gone from a virtual unknown who dropped by from Quake Terminus to the supposed celebrity I am (or was), I have witnessed many changes, mostly negative. I hate to say it but the Quake Community is certainly dying. With a severe lack of experienced players and an recent influx of idiots and ignorant fools, I'm no longer among good company. None of you fall into that category, but it's undeniable that Quakeone was in a downward spiral even when I was still around.

Phenom, Canadian*Sniper, Baker, Steve, and tons of others have been great friends and supporters, I appreciate it greatly. So, I suppose there's not much else to say. Please pass this on to Quakeone if you get a chance.

    Signing Off,

    Bank

It's certainly a shame Bank has left the Quake community, and I'm sure we'll all miss him greatly. But, I have to disagree with Bank on the Quake community dying. I feel it's getting stronger, new quakers are coming in every week. More mods and maps are being made and engines being updated. And with the upcoming event from Zop and Canadian Sniper, that could be a big turning point for the future of Quake. I believe that Quake is still breathing with life.

    So long Bank.

Friendship doesn't exist only within the "Console". If Bank wants to leave the Quake community then thats what he will do.

Bank will certinly still be Bank and I'm almost positive his email will still work so if you want to stay in contact then just send him an email!

I personally believe that the pure essence of vanilla Quake is dying fast with the oldschool Quakers, new players start playing and coming from games like Unreal, Doom 3, Farcry, Half Life and expect rich lush enrivonments which honestly speaking, vanilla Quake never really did offer.

With the new content coming out for Quake 1 It will certinly help. Even bad publicity is good publicity in some cases.

I honestly feel that if Quake 1 wanted to take a different path from allowing the community to die then its not up to ID software, or anyone who was originally involved with the game's making, but the community that it built.

Quake doesn't just need "MORE CONTENT! NEW LEVELS!" It needs smart ideas to compete with the "Shader 2.0" gamers who look for a fix these days. Aslong as the idea is fresh and innovative it should be able to turn a few heads no matter how polygon-challanged the characters are!

I say to Canadian*Sniper & Zop, Keep working on your awesome idea to mold all the Quake 1 levels into one giant playground! This wasn't really an option befor! Its fresh and new! This can either be the tip of the iceberg or just another forgotten mod but it will still be backed by the community and thats what counts! Quake wouldn't be Quake without the people and our friends!

            P.S
Its not about where you've been. Its about were you're going.

Everyone needs to do different things -- diversity!

Hehe. Although Quake has long been dead for several years, the player activity level is actually higher now than -- say -- last summer (2006).

The forum activity -- especially the chatty stuff --- is WAAAAY down because the site is no longer "new and exciting" but rather "taken for granted" the way any resource is.

Such is the life of any resource.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

True. At any given time you can see the people "viewing" the site. There's a ton of traffic that passes through here.

Great post. Shader 2.X, /drools. As long as there are people that care, Quake will be here.

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.
