As a footnote, I'd just like to add that I started thinking about this after reading a bit about "Quake Wars" and how it is apparently a prequel to "Quake 2"...
Quake 2... like Quake never existed.
In fact I remember that when I first played Quake 2 all those years ago, after ten minutes I remember thinking "This just isn't Quake."
And I've thought that about its two sequels.
Why did they even associate 2, 3 & 4 to Quake when they had nothing to do with the original?

I've been thinking about this possibility lately and have decided to post this thread to get your opinions.
If Id Software announced they were going to re-make Quake 1, would you be interested?
We all love Quake one, and I'm guessing most of us think it's way better than any of the sequels (isn't that why we're all still here?), but how would we feel if they remade the classic we all love?
I'd be interested to see what they'd come up with, although the level and weapon design would have to be identical to make me happy about it.
