Phenom - I think you just described what is already out there... Baker is asking us about vanilla Quake coop. I can see it being fun, but it does have the bug of getting monsters stuck in choosing to fight between two different attackers.
My problem with coop, is the lack of coop, its just a race to kill more monsters than the other guy, and you can't hurt each other. This is generally true in RocketGuy's mod, as it is in Avirox's MegaTF coop (it is insane though, try it sometime, it uses a Diablo-esque monster randomization system with skill benefits). I do see some cooperation sometimes in DPmod coop, but that might have something to do with the fact that I'm always playing that with friends - and we get silly but effective ideas like covering each other with proximity grenades and then rushing the toughest monster without taking damage cause teammates cant hurt one another.
I am up for a vanilla coop server perhaps, but it would be worth your while to have a fix for the monster constantly switching targets.

I'd go for vanilla.. sometimes i like to hop on Rquake by myself when no one is around and play. It gets annoying getting killed 5 times trying to take down a shammy with 5000 HP. It would definitely be a good idea to add that, so I could vote for it when no one is around and have a normal SP experience (the monsters are simply way too hard for one player only).
Besides, a good SP map should be fairly hard without the powerups and enhanced monsters, if the monster placement is good. SP maps are all about the monster placement.

RQuake is awesome mod that is really ideal for online cooperative play, it has an observer system and can do coop on maps that are incompatible with cooperative play due to some enhancements.
Some would like ability to play standard coop --- without the enhanced monsters and the powerups --- just normal Quake coop against the monsters on custom maps or even the original maps.
If RocketGuy added a vanilla coop mode server option to RQuake that eliminated the powerups and the customized monster attacks, would you be interested in it?Tags: None
