  • All id games on Steam

id released all their games on Steam today, starting with Commander Keen. Awesome, no?

Strange that there's no way to enter your cd-key if you already own a game.. am I supposed to buy it again? :/

Sounds interesting, but the only Valve game I own is Half-Life and I tried it online a couple of times in 1999 which was pre-Steam as far as I know (I've never used Steam), so I'm not familiar with the implications of this.

I have a lot of different thoughts, like how GLQuake isn't NAT fixed and the number of bugs and annoyances in the original clients and do they get the server list from GameSpy or what? I mean, in particular the original Quake and Quakeworld clients are REALLY out of date.

Just my initial thoughts. It's nice to see them make an active effort to sell Quake again, that's a plus for sure.

/Thanks for the information, by the way

RocketGuy, I had problems with CD-keys too. I've bought a Valve pack, containing Half Life, CS 1.6 and CS:S. But, when I enter the CD-key, it says it's already been used!

My friend had to buy half life twice so his cd-key could finally be accepted. Steam is full of key gens and other hacks, so I just gave up on it.

They've got some good packages on the id store, just buy from there, fuck Steam. Granted not all of those titles are available for download, but I've heard enough horror stories about getting games on Steam. From fans.

I use to think Steam was a bunch of bullshit and ran with the mentality of "Fuck Steam" but once I installed it for the first time and tried it out, its not bad..

Its a far cry from the feeling of freedom the game's built in multiplayer game browser was and makes almost all games feel generically "Steamed" but its not so bad to me, it sucks compared to what it was but Its effective.

I haven't had any technical problems with my Steam account and I've purchased HL, HL Opposing Force, Team Fortress Classic, Counter-Strike, HL Blueshift & Garry's Mod without any conflicts on Steam.

I'm thinking maybe its people with stolen(downloaded) games are the ones who are complaining about how much Steam sucks...

Don't knock it till you try it

Well, $9.95 for Quake at Steam or $20 for Quake at id Software store.

                That's a 100% price difference.

True, though I was looking at the physical copies, I like having a copy of my game and not relying on a third party (Valve, a company built upon Quake's popularity is definitely a third party) to say that I am allowed to play it. Also, the Quake bundle is tight in general, and once again, I like physical copies.

Steam offers nothing to me, and seems like a ham-fisted way to do it. If it is the only possible way to get a game that I want, I will consider using it. But I still would rather be the one to say "I own this copy of this game, and will play it when I please."

I never had a problem with Steam or HL2. Maybe other people have had problems and that gave them a reason to vent it out. But like Phenom said, you're just a fanboy without a true opinion if you've never tried it yourself.

                        I pay'd 100 bucks on my Half life + CS 1.6 + CS:S and I say Steam sucks.

                          I paid $20-30 for my HL2 + HL2DM + HL + HLDM + CS:S package and I don't have a problem with Steam.

So much for "free Quake." How long until the copyright runs out? 60 more years? Peanuts.
