  • You're gonna lose hits

Whether you admit it or not, these stupid new changes WILL lose you hits. I think you should create an "anything goes" forum for the addressing of grievances / flaming / whatever else. It could take the place of the "chit chat" forum. There's no reason to clean up the forums when certain people's stupidity makes comedic gold and generates traffic to the site. Check your numbers, I guarantee everytime you take a hard-line stance like this your traffic drops dramatically.

Scew it! lets make this bitch like sodom & gomorrah! j/k

I'm sure there can be heated discussion without the need to break rules. I think the admins are trying to give the majority of the people who use these forums what they asked for, which is less derailed threads, and better user management.

I know I'd prefer not so much a cleaner forum, but a higher quality forum, flame wars are bound to happen, but if they can be resolved within the area it started without the need to escalate it to a mod/admin then its A-OK by me.

The whole "Paradi$e" posting pornography & essentially trolling comes to mind.

Mods can't play favorites though so it'll be a system wide effect.

Unfortunately Omicron, your one voice against many isn't going to be heard. I respect your input on you wanting the forums to thrive but I don't see Solecord allowing quakeone.com to simply become a flamefest anytime soon, even more so with these new rules in place.

QuakeOne.com could change its theme color to pink with green poke-a-dots,and it still wouldnt lose hits.

There's actually nothing that can be done to lose hit's. QuakeOne.com has become a resource for nearly everything NetQuake related on a broad scale.

The only traffic that is being generated by ignorant flame sessions is from the same idiot's either starting or taking part in them, which is traffic that we will have without the ignorant flame sessions, because that traffic is regular users who will continue to visit the forums. The real traffic comes from people searching google for anything Quake 1 related.

The REAL traffic comes from link popularity in the search engines. How much links are visited by web users. You are dealing with a cold hearted machine, it doesn't care if you mean good intentions, if the website is crap, you won't get traffic.

Also the offtopic threads don't get targeted very well in search engines.

If someone searched for "Need help installing Quake 1 mod" and theres two threads on quakeone.com titled "Can't install blah mod" the other titled "Paradise's art gallery" which do you think is going to show up for that users?

This is why off topic threads are shunned when it comes to actually growing a website. Just because you check the site and see more threads are made doesn't exactly mean its a growing community.

The website isnt crap, and even with the drama queens on the forums, the forums are'nt crap (I know your post didnt imply such a thing, ftr). With that being said, if Baker/others keep writing up News and reporting it as it unfolds, and peoples project's and idea's continue to float around on the forums/elsewhere at quakeone.com , it will continue to grow AND thrive.

          Kudo's to QuakeOne.com

I'm expecting to see a little more then just a frontpage post once Baker announces a full blown release of his projects compiled together and once that happens I plan on starting my own campaign to get more people playing Quake from newbie gamers to the current generation of "Pretty Gamers"

I think everyone is open to alternate solutions.

I don't see anything wrong with a bit of heated discussion. There are topics we all feel strongly on, either for or against. There are however also topics which are guaranteed to cause havoc, and there have also been cases where two people have essentially hijacked a thread to publicly air their personal grievances at each other. I think the owners and admins are doing the Right Thing by clamping down on those, and I don't see any loss of hits resulting from that. Quite the opposite, I actually see a positive outcome as it would help remove any feeling that QuakeOne is not a nice place.

As was stated before, no one said you can't start flame wars... Flame away, that's fine. The issue is osting your flame wars in a non-related topic. Keep your flames in appropriate forums and topics and everything'll be fine.

I'll go on-record & disagree with the original post.
I for one have stayed away from the forums because of overkill flaming. There's just not enough time in the day to read through all the nonsense.

Much like Solecord says, if threads stay on-topic, they can be of interest. But whining repeatedly about topics that have already been discussed elsewhere & bringing up old grudges that have little to do with the topic @ hand is simply boring & of no use to the game or the skills required therein.
You're gonna need a bigger boat....

Its actually already noticeable that there are fewer posts here and on the other forums, and most of it is just stupid chatter about nothing either way.

I'm not the one making less money off google ads, so I shouldn't be the one complaining about it. I was just saying its stupid to moderate the content of a quake 1 forum.

                          Flame on

It was way out of control before and reached a interesting new heights in lameness when someone started trolling and posting porn in a thread about how to control flaming.

We have an extra moderator now, we may getting more.

Like Sole said, there is no new forum rule. That poll was an idea thread to gauge whether or not others felt there was a problem.

Baker, stop bullshitting, there is nothing inappropriate about quoting old, appropriate posts. You are being pathetic and bending over backwards for a true piece of shit, and changing forum policy so she can censor and blot out of things shes said before.

Ive also said things I regret. What I don't do is change my mind and say you can't quote what I said in the past, that doesn't count. Stop being a tool. I am fully within my rights to quote old posts, and there are no profanity rules on this forum, and that was not inappropriate content when it was posted. At least 3 admins saw it and didn't moderate it. You only decided it was bad after she flooded your inbox with complaints. I AM STILL FULLY WITHIN MY RIGHTS TO QUOTE OLD POSTS.

Not inappropriate posts that were moderated. Try to find that quote ... it was moderated TWO months ago.

No, I thought it was bad the first time I saw it. I don't do anyone any favors anyway, ask around.

Besides, why are you quoting someone who may never come back here anyway. I heard someone say she quit these forums. So good luck with that.
