  • Who is tired of Speaknow and Rage?

As much as I have tried to avoid becoming a "forum" starter, it has become my interest to do so now. As many of you know, I have been playing netquake since mid 99 and I've seen many players come and go. However, the abundance of people that have left due to actions taken on recent servers such as speaknow and rage has plagued the game further. I am not going to say any names because I feel the true "players" know the source of the problem so I will take the other path and make a suggestion that may benefit us all, including those who are on a power trip, and have no control over anything besides a server. Phenom has recently brought it to my attention that there is a server up in Chicago. [ roots.quakeone.com ] This server offers several different mod(s) including traditional cax, ffa mode, airshot, practice mode, and I think it may even offer old school dm. Also, the server runs map rotation so no more of just 'dm3. I think everyone likes dm3, however, why have 100+ maps, and only play one? Anyway, everyone is more than welcome to come play, and I promise, this is a change for the better. I generally do not promote anything, and I try to keep my nose out of things, but due to recent events, and an overall sickness, I suggest the quake community make a switch to a "real" server. Also, if anyone has any suggestions, or anything that they would like to have done, or see on the server, I can be found on mirc @ gamesurge.net / #quake1 or if you feel inclined to sending me a message on here, feel free to do so.

    Thanks.

Hrrmmm, I've been a quaker (of many mods through the past) nearly since Quake was released, and I'm still failing to see the problem, when I left Q1 to move down south,I came back and Rage was dead and Speaknow was busy busy, and I'm betting its because ping, and not much else,on a broad scale.

I'm done with speaknow. Totally sick of this shit. There should be a migration to this server.

Yellow 5 killed rage. Everyone was sick of it and went to speaknow, where yellow 5 didn't have admin. Yellow 5 got admin on speaknow by slowly getting buddy buddy with dread. Made him change the .01 ticrate and overrode the will of the people, and then got admin.

Yellow 5 is a cocksucker that has been ruining this community for far too long because he's willing to pay as much as it takes to wield power. He's willing to suck up to a new guy (dreadful) and then offer to pay him to take that power back.

I tried roots and if you want that thing to get popular, that .05 ticrate has to go. Snoozefest.
The sys_ticrate for roots.quakeone.com is set to 0.025

            What exactly does ticrate do?

It's the server refresh rate or some shit. A lower ticrate is smoother play for people with fast connections and a higher ticrate is smoother play for people with slow connections (looks at bam >_>)
              e|------------------------0---------------
              B|---------------0^1----------------1----
              G|---------------2------2------0^2-------
              D|---------------2-------2--2-------------
              A|---------------0------------------------
              E|----------------------------------------

                sys_ticrate Type: Register

                Default: 0.05

Description: The amount of time in seconds between consecutive packets send out by the server to the client.

                Note:
This is one of the most important variables for the server. The default setting of 0.05 will send out 20 packets-per-second to the client. This number is too high for players using modems to connect to the Internet. It is recommended that server administrators set this variable to 0.1 in order to limit the number of out going packets to the clients to 10 packets-per-second. Setting this variable will make a lot of modem players happy.

i thought roots was a DM server? why another CA one? we dont need more CA servers. and i think ticrate can affect bunny-hopping too , i heard that on the euro server it was modified and thats why you can bunnyhop more easily.

i dont like bunny-hopping though, kinda breaks the game

the ticrate is the timing at which ther server sends data to the players, at 0.025 its 40 "times" per second. Oldschool 99 was 0.1 10 times per secoind

default crmod was 0.05 20 times a sec...
