Rather hard to get a MechTec on the run, takes so much scripting.
The AuqaMarine in Malice was great, but why did they scramble the progs so all info got crashed.
Vehicles are hard to solve with func_trains.

Yes. But Quake is also a superb single player experience, second only to DOOM (and Half-Life, arguably, which is a Quake mod).

Sure, maps are generally not large enough to fit tanks in, but what about forklifts for example. They can be fun to drive. I could also imagine boats. Malice, for example, has minisubs, and the hoverboard - technically a vehicle. Another Quake mod.

There are mechs in Quake, which are technically vehicles. Try the mod Custents. There's also a mech TC somewhere. Baker would know more.

In a map without vehicles, it's also clear that you can't escape from the horror. If you had a working Hummer, for example, wouldn't you rather escape? Only Quake is about being locked in with monsters.

i remember seeing a mod for flying ships and mechs on wide open landscapes.
obviously vehicles would be dumb on regular maps in regular quake. it would require a new mod. but there do exist big maps suitable for vehicles. the problem would be finding them.

i believe telejano is responsible for the mod im thinking of , and i also remember something about him using a terrain generator for big quake maps

The mod I'm working on plans to add in vehicles..

In fact, I'm more or less waiting for some news on stick-physics to incorporate into the team's mod for vehicle physics.

Vehicles are a poor fit with the way existing maps for Quake have been made, that is for sure.

    But mapping is open ended...

now that is an option, speed could be bumped up a notch, possibly sharpening weapon skills further - on the move

I have to agree here. Vehicles on a standardized Quake 1 map would be out of place.

Quake as it is right now is run and gun without asking questions or even stopping to think.

    Just my thoughts.

Nope, vehicles are perfectly possible in Quake.

See Quake Rally, AirQuake, Nehahra or Tomaz Mini Racer.

I'd rather disappointed that vehicles in Quake haven't been used that much.
