If you use QuakeWorld you might want to try CustomTF Coop. It's team fortress, but you can buy and upgrade weapons and stuff. Plus the PL server has a ton of maps. Has a fair amount of players and is updated rather frequently:

You can also check out my MegaTF coop mod which has a lot of cool stuff, including support for the 2 mission packs, nehahra, and travail (and much more). You can play it on the Amnesia server where there are usually at least a few people playing: 209.9.227.18:27600

Rocket guy produced a very good multiplayer coop mod which runs on one of the flanders servers run by Polarite based in Belgium. You never know if you talk nicely to him he may know a way of running it in single player and let you have a copy.

I've never heard of cooperative single player. I always thought if something was cooperative, there are at least 2 people involved.
