Oh- here are some wishlist stuff (regarding Quake mods/tweaks).

    -Remember Pretty Water?
I reckon we'd need an update to it (only this time it doesn't render slime transparent- but merely adds the shine and ripple effect over the top - so you don't confuse it with water (but would also apply to the murky water textures also to a slight extent))! If there was a way to trim it down for lower-end machines that would also be awesome.

Rygel/Quake Reforged surface texturepack- FOR QUOTH!!!! (esp Red777/Lost-Chapters-style maps- If I saw textures as good as Rygel and the Reforged Team's work on a map like that I'd need a new pair of shorts)!

    Also- a high-quality GREEN slime texture to overwrite the existing slime textures (the only problem with the Rygel one is it's kinda more yellowish-brown- more like water;

A Quoth expansion with new enemies (especially lower-tier enemies- probably the only thing Quake sorely lacks).

    Console.

What would happen if there was to be a separation of the console.

    +-console (Chat and Game Events)
    -console (Game Events only)
    +console (Chat only)

    Or 2 consoles:

    ~ (Game Event Console)
    SHIFT + ~ (Chat Console...with emoticons)

Borderlands (video game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia seems like this. It's FPS but a touch of Diablo, set in a post atomic era. Touts more than 10,000 weapons!
I've been running into more sidescrollers lately which imho hides alot of the low- poly-ness of an engine and focuses on gameplay. This is built on DarkPlaces [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FXWUfHfY2s&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - Obelisk (+ in-game editor)[/ame]
and this one is an indie game made by the guys who rnu Nexuiz though i dont think its a DP [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hqt-uYSGMC8&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - Capsized Trailer 1[/ame]..., and then there's always this.

All of these style games would make a perfect PSP quake game. Quake sidescroller on PSP using sprites/TGA images

    Long shot:

Less on the game play side, and more on the utility side:

Who knows, maybe this will be some new invention. Something called "Footing"... My own word for the idea.

As PC gamers... we use a mapping of the keyboard to operate. My guess is that the normal player keeps the mapping consistent with subtle changes.

Now and again, when I am dual'ing it out, I will misplace my hand on the keyboard and have to compensate by orienting my hand back in place.

If there was program in the background observing my keystrokes, and it knew generally what I wanted to do based on my .cfg file, knew the layout of my keyboard, and knew my algorithm of real-time play... it would remap the keyboard as needed to compensate for me...for however long I keep that footing.

Wow. that would be fun. Imagine Scorpion's Van Dam Spear that is also your grappling hook: yanking someone towards you, followed by a Super Saiyan Hadouken?!! KABOOM! More than just fall damage... PUSH damage... Slam someone into a wall with your hook as you spin, splat on the wall... your upper cut splats someone on the ceiling.

One of the counter attacks would be to cut the cord or use the momentum of being yanked into the attack... get grounding, use the attacker's own weapon to wing 'em to the wall...or into the sun...why not.

What would happen if Quake supported custom Widgets within the client? Is there such a thing? I've never heard of a game that allowed 3rd party plug-ins. It would open a whole new avenue for small time programmers...

Radar Widget, Power-up Predictor Widget, Chat Widget!!!!

I would love to see a Ninja Malee Quake... Almost all weapons are melee except for ninja stars, and poison darts. We would have long katana swords, graping hooks, and a handful of martial art moves that include blocking and attack.

1 hit dead strike zones and appendages that get severed off like buttah.

For those who are Japanese Animation fans, how bout Super Saiyan power-ups and out of this world combo attacks.

    Hadouken!!!!

To my understanding this would require, new models? new animation, hit detection, models that can break off.

I THINK all those should be possible, though very rigid and unpractical in an engine such as Quake 1.

I'd love to see a more solid rendition of an RPG like Quake, where you could level up and possibly even have players/bots as team members.

That really shouldn't be too hard to build into the client ever since Rook wrote an easy to implement CURL download mechanism based on Warsow.

Eventually such a thing will happen.

But for single player you already have the Quake Injector.

For multiplayer, this week the mechanics for all that will be in the Universal Server project (several mods votable per server).
