I am aware this is a controversial topic, and I am sorry that it offends. The point of this topic is to expose the distasteful elements that make up our social web that keeps us from growing. I'm not pointing fingers, dropping names, or singling out anyone... If someone has an issue with this topic, I guess they will have to reflect and figure out why. All I can say is... moving forward, think before posting...

-I never though u were trying to start a fight, but i obviously am. this is a letter writing campaign against one player i cant stand. the elements that make up anything social is adhering to social behaviors. moving forward, i will still the same spiteful shit against some cockbag that is a determent to our "community"

There is a mess out there... we can clean it up... just need your help.

I am not discounting anyone's statement; please forgive me if I challenge it in my own thread.

-I don't care that you challenge my view points. I welcome it. At points in your discussion, you actually state my motives and my points of view. Sorry, but you don't know me well enough to say that I am doing this for one reason or another. An example of this is when you stated that I felt a that I needed a break and this was a reason to take that break. Excuse me, but you dont know me that well and please don't project your feelings onto mine. thx.

I enjoy playing with all of you, even when it's vocalized on the web that I am hated and unwanted. Although my name isn't mentioned, I fall in the the generalization of the undesirables.

It makes me feel pretty bad that that fun stops when someone speaks up after being run over...and then gets kicked the face.

I have to disagree... This is much more than a FPS game... This is a discussion board. This is the think-tank that gets your game on... This is the protection unit for the fun times.

-Disagree. This is a fps game. All FPS games are point and click. Nothing else. I have a hard time reading your comments when you discard the trackball vs mouse comments. Yes, I was a KB'er at one point. I was good at KB and used to it. The only reason I got decent in quake was that I switched from KB to mouse. Multiple people have said the problem with your quake game is your trackball, but you refuse to believe it. you say that it is "unique" you your game. Get over it. There is nothing unique to anyone's game. It's 12 years old. The formula is obvious.

The dreaded 'serious discussion' is a small price to pay for a secure and fun future.
-There is no such thing as a "secure and fun" future. wake up.

Sorry EI, there must be a cross communication here... I am a little confused as to your response.

I have fun playing. I don't see what needs to be changed. I don't really have a problem with anybody in the Quake community. We all joke around and have fun. Like I said, the fun stops when someone takes the jokes too seriously. You're basically telling people to censor themselves in order to attract new members. If someone gets turned off by something that they read on this forum, they probably weren't planning on staying very long in the first place.

I wish I could tote the same feelings of Carte blanche. I don't want to offend my friends, or my would-be friends... for however long I know them.

When one states "I hate..." in your direction with no sign of jest, or if every other utterance is a derogatory statement at your expense... who's is laughing? ...one has to ask them-self... "why am I here?"

I'm laughing at the person who feels they need to say that to someone over the internet to make them feel better.

i wish the community were kinder as well. however, I think it's in the nature of the internet. It has a 'disinhibiting' effect on people. This takes a positive form when a person shares something profound about themselves that they'd never share with a real person in their life. Much, much more frequently, it takes a negative form, when people feel themselves freed of the usual bonds of decorum and community, yet still able to communicate with each other. This leads to the hateful drivel, which bothers me, that I see on this forum and every other internet forum. Something about the internet, often seems to bring out the worst in people...

Splinter is right, as far as this forum goes - I don't know what happens on servers since I simply don't go there.

Computer game forums (especially non-dev communities) are an idiot magnet, has to do with the target audience (not enough grown up people play games yet). Also a side effect of desparately advertising self to newbies to "keep the game alive". When you invite the world to your party, some of the guests will be looking for trouble. In such a situation, you can either enforce your rules as the host, or you can encourage laissez-faire and piss off the few people that actually want to be productive.

I have said a couple times now that immature behaviour and pointless shit slinging in threads pisses me off.

It's not that I'm too thin skinned. It's that the people who shit-sling are behaving in an anti-social and immature way. I am simply right on this, sorry.

Dev communities seem to have less of this problem, naturally, especially communities where cooperation is the order of the day. You'll think twice before pissing off someone whose expertise and talent you might need.

If you're only in it for yourself, you can afford pissing off others. Goes both for certain players and certain devs (or armchair players, or armchair devs).

Bottom line, if piss taking on a community platform is common, you will attract more piss-takers. Vicious cycle. Enforce some rules before it is too late.

r00k... well done illustrating (ehh) my point. I said something that I actually put some thought into, only for the next guy in line to disrupt the thread and demonstrate that my opinion isn't worth reading.

The consequence is that I will post less often, and you'll get less people like me and more people like this Kimp guy everybody talks about. Good job. I could just get a dog, after all.
