  • The Quake Bet

I'm looking for some information on the famous Quake bet from years and years ago where a dude lost his car in a match. It was a Porsche or Ferrari or something. Anyone have some details?

John carmack, (quake developer, ID ceo) using alias Entropy, battled Thresh (Dennis Fong) in a 1v1 on e1m2 castle of the damned at the first quakecon.

Carmack offered up his own Ferrari as the prize to the winner of the tourney, and they had to beat him in the final match. Thresh won and got the car

As far as I understand it, John Carmack is not Empathy and did not actully play in the tournement. He just offered the car to the winner.

Speaking of prizes in Quake tournaments... My college's student body arranged a Quake II tournament in like 1999 on our LAN... Dam right I joined... Kicked every one's donkey and walked off with $100. At the time I was Quake incarnate... skipping classes and playing into the early morning.
