  • DMSP updates? Quoth Support?

I was wondering if there have been any updates to the DMSP mod? I really enjoyed that one and was hoping there would have been mission pack support for them. Plus I seem to remember the original did not spawn Shamblers or Vore's. I think it would be good as an option.

I saw the Super Duper DMSP, but it's a bit too "wacky" For my tastes with light sabers and Duke Nukem stuff. It strays a little too far from the Original theme and style of Quake in my opinion.

I think it would be awesome if there was a DMSP with Quoth support!
Maybe even Rune Quake support? I don't actually know much about rune quake, but it looks interesting.

    Maybe also add bot support.

And a scoring system would be great too.

I'd also like to see a lives system and weapon respawn when you load dm maps in sp. Like you had to beat a level with only 3 lives or something. Playing it the way it is, DM lets you have unlimited lives without respawning the monsters and playing SP doesn't respawn the weapons.

I don't think that there have been any later versions of DMSP than version 2 (which has been around for a number of years now).

The source code is available for it, so there's not really much (lack of QuakeC knowledge is probably the only thing) to stop you from making it spawn in whichever monsters you want. This includes monsters from other mods, if the source to that mod is available. This rules out Quoth, but the 2 mission packs could be done. You could also add custom monsters that you (or someone else) has made.

I'm not sure what Rune Quake has that would work well with DMSP. And I'm not sure that bots are intelligent enough to work out what to do yet. There is a single player bot being developed over at i3d, but I don't know how far advanced it is.

There is also a mod called Qonquer that is very DMSP-like.

I don't have any modding or quakeC knowledge unfortunately, otherwise I probably would give it a try.

I think it would also be cool to able to use the Qoetia mod with dmsp, but I don't think it is possible to load 2 mods at once.

I'll check out the link you posted.

I also noticed that even though dmsp says to start levels in single player mode, the weapons don't respawn when you do. I thinking they should because taking on that many enemies with such limited ammo is extremely difficult. And playing in DM mode is almost too easy, because you just respawn everytime you die and will eventually beat all the enemies instead of having to start over from the beginning.

The Soul of Evil mod has a good DMSP mode to it. I've added monsters from other mods to it for myself, but some mods have much different AI constructs that the monsters can't be added without a lot of work. I managed to get the gaunt from quoth added without crashing, but it doesn't fly anywhere...

That involves modding work... it's somewhat like copy and paste, but you have to know where to work it. You also need a an app to unpak files from pak0.pak et al. and a quakec compiler. I can give you what I have, but it's made pretty hard. You should get used to the regular DMSP mode in Soul of Evil, before trying it.

The quick way to get to it, after installing the SoE mod, is by doing the command "temp1 1" in console, then change to one of the soe deathmatch maps (soedm1, soedm2, etc). Skill level determines the number of monsters spawned.
