  • Quake 1 Shareware CD

    Hi,
I have bought recently a CD called Quake episode 1 shareware, it is in good state and have the manual.

I know a Quake 1 CD is worth about 15$, is the shareware vertion generally worth more or less?

    Thank you in advance

AFAIK, shareware version only contains start level and episode 1 (i.e pak0.pak file). You will not have the chance to play episode 2 to 4, and the end level with this Quake version..

If you want the full game you need to look for Quake pak1.pak file on the internet..

    Good luck !

Shareware is typically worth less since its technically just a demo of the game. If I recall correctly, the shareware cd has the full soundtrack, which (my opinion) is worth the cost of it; and the reason why i bought the shareware copy!

I can't imagine the full CD costing much money these days, but I haven't checked prices.

I guess - if you can find a collector - you might find it's worth a little more than a regular CD, as it would be more rare. But how much more I don't know, and that depends on finding a collector. A regular player wouldn't have much interest in it.

Didn't some of the shareware CDs actually have the entire game on them?

Yes some did have full versions of the game...

I know this one did (cover picture):

It had the full version of quake and many other great games. It is a rare find indeed. People used to crack the full versions of the games using a program called qcrack.exe which had to be put in a certain directory to be used.

I am not saying to do this, I am just saying that yes, you are correct.

Taiko, is the one you have the same as the picture I linked to and if so where did you find this disk? I have been looking for it for like a decade. Is there an online store I could buy it from? I am jealous! This is literally the disk that got me into first person shooter gaming.
