  • Future of the quake franchise

Hello, My name is Pyros and I'm new here. The first thing I'd like to ask is if anyone here thinks that id software has plans to continue the Quake franchise. I know they recently released the browser based Quake Live. But they haven't released a commercial quake title since Quake Wars in 2007.

They probably will in way way or another. A few months ago I downloaded duke3d and doom on xbox live, they play just like the originals. I was hoping they would do the same thing with quake with a new style engine Atleast it might let some new people see where quake got started.

Hell, Ive played doom and duke3d on the 360 more in the last 2 months than anything else.
If you see 427 playing Quake thats me.

I was thinking that if they released Quake 5 then it would continue the story of Quake 1 just as Quake 4 continued Quake 2.

I agree with this idea, even though Quake 1, even at id's admitance was sloppily put together (story/theme wise), it still worked and wish to see it continued and refined in Quake 5!

If id does ever release Quake 5 than it probably won't be for a while because their focus right now seems to on Rage. After that's released they'll likely shift their attention to Doom 4.

I think Raven Software will be in charge of Quake5 if the community doesnt take it over. If I knew right now they they plan to never continue the Quake theme then I would start ASAP for a Q5 using a modified Quake engine.

I think though it would be cool to have

Speaking of Rage, Id just confirmed that it won't be released until 2011. I've also been thinking that they may plan to release Doom 4 in 2013 to celebrate Doom's 20th anniversary.

Rage engine and Quake 1 playability?

But meanwhile, Quoth's finished singleplayer campaign would suffice.
