    ...know what would rule!?

Vis'd maps and forced R_novis/water alpha .5/.7 one of the two, where u still see the water and the ripples of real water like view, yet can see under the water too....

In all clients, and all servers.

Which would create a whole knew aspect of fighting, since, even the people in water on these maps could see the people above them that see them.

    I think it'd be fun.

But probably difficult to near impossible to implement and restrict (from what i've been lectured on).

Too many, unquestionable people out there.

    >_<

    Lamers wrecking it for everyone.

    ~Cheers.

Love to see that happen (someday).

    Be such fun.

r_wateralpha would really destroy DM3. One reason that DM3 is the best id1 deathmatch map is the peril of the underwater battle. If you could see underwater, you just would kill from outside the water.

Even though I tire of DM3 eventually, it has the diversity of combat thing going for it. No other DM map has the diversity of terrain going for it.

Although I would say that q1edge in DM may have a different type of diversity going for it. And q3dm6qw at least in Clan Arena has the diversity thing going for it.

[There is no hack or cheat capable of seeing under the water in any meaningful way. The server doesn't have the map vised, it doesn't even send underwater entities. Except for possibly "particles". Which in most cases isn't much info at all.]

I'm using Qrack 1.90 and I get transparent water! I prefer a transparency of 0.2.

The thing is, while I can see all the way to the bottom underwater on DM3, however I CANNOT see any models including players, rockets or grenades.

but rather than just seeing "a bobbing head" , with trans h20 in qrack (thats wot I use, fok!!) you see an entire quake players body, which aid's in my reaction timing.

After all,the quake guys head is barely distinguishable compared the DM3's muddy water.

Once any part the player's bounds are visible to the player standing outside the water the entire model is sent to that client, from the server. If you have opaque water set then all that is visible is what isnt clipped by the water texture, ie the head.

R_wateralpha is a command introduced by glQuake and the whole reason it's disabled is because winQuake doesnt have alpha textures. So in fairness opaque water has become the norm. This can save fps too btw.

            Fairness Tangent
Yet on the flip side of the coin, winQuake (software gfx not openGL) does allow for fullbright colors, which are >224 on the Quake pallete. Just like standard Quake in the dos days, those colors are uneffected by world lighting, and as such glow in the fN dark! So screw fairness to winQuake.

            Back to the wateralpha issue:
In crmod 6.4 you can set your r_wateralpha to transparent, yet no visible entities are shown thru the water. In both Qrack or ProQuake.

CAx has r_wateralpha disabled by default. Though an exploit in Qrack allows to override this by setting your wateralpha value in the options menu, after you connect.
If you want to see transparent water on a CAx server in ProQuake (and lose more fps), set r_wateralpha 0.x and r_novis 1, then type alias r_wateralpha "anythinggoeshere", then connect to the server. The server will try to set r_wateralpha but will fail because you already have the alias defined before your connected. You will not be able to readjust the alpha value while connected.

This in no way will show entities underwater, though you will beable to see the tunnel to pent and pillars etc, just like in CRMOD.

Well I'm saying something should be done about that.

Prior to today, I've never really played anyone on DM6 who used r_wateralpha, so the hiding behind the tele trick didn't work. That's pretty lame.

Teleporters in Qrack are not controlled with wateralpha so, they are unaffected.
But the silly reason they even are grouped with water is simply because they warp. They should have made them like sky textures or just animated textures period. To me the teleporters on the start map in old Quake looked like Static on a black and white TV.
