Nope, there isn't. The IP would load the domain root which has a .htaccess file which will still redirect to an ads page. I am the owner of a hosting reselling company and I am sure about this.

What I can tell you is that in such cases, the database and the FTP contents are still intact, and any hits are just redirected. As Baker said, the expiration date is September 25th, 2010. Their hosting company says "Typically, we provide a 35-day grace period during which the current holder can still renew it for the standard renewal fee."

I sent an email to the hosting company with some general questions regarding the state of the domain, and I'll keep you posted.

Hope someone can reach FrikaC or Dr. Shadowborg.

The DNS shows an expiration date of 9/25/2010. Registrars always give you a bit of a renewal grace period (10 days usually) and I'm guessing after 5 days you get the generic "registrar page" as a heads up.

So probably how what is going on is different than quakesrc.org is it is unlikely that the database or anything is lost, just that the DNS needs renewed.
