If there was, I never knew about it. Of course I was nine years old when the game came out, too, so it isn't like it would have been impossible for me to miss it. Again though, it wasn't a big deal since if you lined up your mouse above or below the enemy, it would fire at that person regardless of your vertical orientation. Now if only the crosshair weren't off-center...
Man I played the crap out of that game. I miss playing TF every Friday night on the local ISP's Quake server. We used to play it on the SP maps. E1M1 was always my favorite.

Mouselook was one of the biggest deals to me about Quake 2.

Another thing I did not like about Quake1 was that the monsters where easier to hit with the grenadeL on Nightmare mode (eg: The Ogre would stand still because he would always be shooting grenades)

Quake 1 looked the best with that gritty look, Quake 2 looked the most realistic and Quake 3 looks like absolute crap.

The Rocket Launcher in Q1 looks more practicle and logical in design (you know, with its exhausts coming out the barrel and all) But I still like Q3A's one, much better than Q2's.

I dislike the lack of a clean and obvious pipeline to generate more modders, modelers and engine coders.
Quake has mappers and retexturers galore.
It also needs some more established "frameworks" for more interesting single player --- which Quake Remake has a lot of that covered and Quoth could have covered, but they chose to make it a dead-wood closed source work.
Probably a bit too complex of a thought for this thread, but Quake has a little ravine separating it from what it should have.
And as a result, certain things end up being instant headaches.
On the plus side, there are far fewer headaches than in the past.

"1. original quake did not let you look up or down with the mouse without holding a key, that is until somebody told me to type in the console +mlook but I had to do that everytime I entered the game, so then I made config.cfg a read-only file (I played quake using winquake) But in the end +mlook should be in the options menu from the start."
I totally forgot about this! Seriously, i played quake for almost a year, release date through spring of the next year before i found out about +mlook. Oh and i didnt even know anything about mouse sensitivity. I was using the default that whole time as well.
