    • Hey....Im WYTNYT.....aka DILLHOLE
I started playing Quake and CTF in '99, on Mplayer (aka "1OFAKIND") on dial-up, with a few of my buddies on Vancouver Island. We played for a few years, then I kinda lost touch and became an admin for a Tactical Ops site. The newer games started to bore me so I have come back to my roots. The only problem is, I cant remember all the good paks, patches and ad-ons I need to get my game running at its best. So, if any of you guys out there feel you havent done enough charity work, I could really use the help. See ya guys on the battle field.

      • Hi, I'm FragBait. I started playing Quake back when it first came out, but being a little kid, I wasn't really allowed to play on the internet. Starting in 1999 my dad, Chunkster, started playing Artifact Quake in QuakeWorld. He was a webmaster and admin for Webbster's Artifact QuakeWorld Server. Every once in awhile my dad would let me play. We quit for awhile and went to newer games, and more often than not we would just play quake on a LAN. One day though, when I was home alone (this was sometime in 2001 or 2002 or something), I installed GameSpy 3D and looked at normal quake servers. I found Shmack and Deadzone and I started playing on there. Soon my dad caught on and we started playing together then. We played at those 2 servers and Widomaker and SINGED when it came out for a few years. Eventually the interest left the both of us as we moved on to other games, one of which was KOTS2000 on Quake 2. Interest for us dropped out of Quake 2, and by this time World of Warcraft had come out and that's what we've been playing lately. I don't know if anyone's noticed or not but i have been coming back and playing once in awhile as of late and I forgot how fun it was. I am 16 now, going on 17. I guess it's kind of late to be returning now; I am going to be on foreign exchange soon. :-) But I will enjoy my time while I am here.

edit: I guess I should mention that I primarily play runequake on quake.shmack.net so that's where you will find me if I am on.

              • Chuck, who also used to play quake, produced a bunch of techno stuff. Maybe you could hook up with him somehow. He has a myspace website, I think it is http://www.myspace.com/chuckparsons

Just a brief note to say thnx for the frags on the Euro Rune server I was directed to by Mr Burns. A slight 'huzzah' for me to connect to a NON QW server in the last 8 months. After only one bottle of SA Red wine it was good fun and I managed a few frags Mr Baker.
                  GG.

Yeah, it's crazy that a month ago I did a connection test on all the major European NetQuake servers and 100% of them had inproper settings that would cause some players to fail to connect.

(The only USA server that had that problem was Bomber @ IronRocket, and Bomber was moved to another host as the prior server host was unresponsive.)

No wonder no one was playing in Europe.

That will be changing. I am going to be putting an exclamation mark next to any servers with improper router settings in the full server browser. I need to retest since apparently GCHQ has recently corrected this issue.

I might add that NONE of the servers in Europe are listed in GameAholic.Net (server add page) so it also takes ESP to know they exist if someone doesn't visit this site or Quake1.Net

                    • I'm Madcrow and I'm mainly a SP quaker having 56k and all. Back when everyone used 56k it was OK to netplay with but now when everyone else has broadband it rather sucks... Anyway, here I am.

                        • I'm new here. My name is Sir Chunky. I got the name from an old friend when I had the tendency to run after him with an axe and he had a rocket launcher. hence "chunky gibble." I started playing Quake 1 back when it was released in 1996. Before Quake 1, I was a rabid Doom fan (still am today). I never played Quake 1 over the internet since back in those days I never had an internet connection so my only way of multiplayer was through LAN, which was fun since we would yell at eachother and get into fights out of fustration. Later on when Quake 2 was released I bought it and that time I had 56k (fastest at that before cable was introduced) and I would constantly play Quake 2 on MSN Gaming Zone. I played other pc games before coming back to Quake 1 since most current fps's don't really have the fun and excitement like the older fps's do.

Yeah, I love Immortal. I was kind of sad that they broke up but Abbath and one of the first drummers (not Horgh, I forgot his name) along with King Ov Hell and a guitarist is coming back with the band called "I" and Iscariah is in a Industrial/Black Metal band called Amok. Do you like alot of black metal bands?

Abbath and Horgh have been talking of regrouping... And I proudly wear my Sons of Northern Darkness t-shirt right now as I say that.

I like the musical tone of black metal on the whole, but Immortal is the only one I particularly enjoy. Being a Christian, it makes black metal a bit awkward at times for me. I get into stuff thats more growl oriented, simply because Im a roarer myself so I can sing along with it in my car, whereas black metal just isnt my vocal tone.
