    • Hey. I originally played Quake probably late '97, starting with NQ on a Swedish server despite my being a modem player from the US at the time, and eventually went through a few mediocre clans and moved on to QW. Sometime late '99, I got sick of the dm6/dm3 or more likely not playing crap and quit. The return came when vx0 put up quake.bash.org late last year; I've been playing and trying to get a newb QW league and clan for said league together since then. Given that there are two regular players stemming from that site, well...I figure screw that for now and it's time to just head over here and NQ, where people actually play.
My usual hangout is quake.nobodysalternative.net on QW; gotta get a NQ hangout or two now...
Lastly, I'm starting to do mapping to go with one other guy's QC for a "qpong" mod which will hopefully go somewhere eventually...here's hoping it works out.

Those bash.org guys seem pretty nice, but it is hard to get CTF going. For a while, there were constant efforts to get something going with CTF over here and most of them didn't succeed until about a month or 2 ago when ThreeWave games started to heat up.

I like Nobodies Alternative when ultrav or ztndm3 are playing, it's a pretty good server and those admins seem very nice.

Yeah, blax and vx0 are nice guys but that doesn't count for much when it comes to getting people on the server. It looks like most of the people there are playing once or twice and never bothering again...

...and as for the custom maps, well, Nobody's Alternative is good for having rarer, interesting ones up; ultrav is a good example of that. Then there's the stuff that seriously doesn't belong there; excluding the ones that just aren't my style, tiny maps like aerowalk and utressor should NOT be on such a busy server...

E1M7 and the E1M7+ with the slime/teleporter in the middle, haha

Well, welcome to the forums and I'm sure that Frenzy, Stoop, Bosh and the all other CTF guys would be happy to have another player in the Threewave pool. :d

            • Hi I'm Kurt and I haven't played quake one for years. I had kept advancing to Quake 2, then 3. Haven't played 4 yet.

I downloaded Quake one from this site because I lost my original copy. How do you unlock the whole game? It says you have to register the game, but there has to be away around that now that you can download it for free isn't there?

I'd appreciate any help in this manner. My son and I downloaded Quake one because we use to enjoy playing it so much.

              Thanks,
              Kurt

              • Welcome to the forums.

Quake isn't free (except the shareware version), although legally free alternatives are getting closer.

Check your private messages and I explain it in more detail.

                            • Hey everyone.

I started playing Quake somewhere around 97-98 when my 17 year old babysitter was playing it while he was at me and my bros house. At that time i was around 8 and my bro was around 12. I cant even remember the oldest servest i played on back in 97-98 because I myself being 7 or 8 back then didn't have the time commitment to play the game haha.

Well i dont know how many years later I started to get more into the game and I played CA and CTF. I pretty much sucked due to me being young and not understanding of the game mechanics. Then after years passed I got more used to the game and came into understanding it better. I went by the alias of recall and my brother went by the alias of matrix (he was in RuM).

Now i'm 16 and back on Quake and would like to start getting back in a groove. I probably wont start actually playing much for a couple weeks due to my computer being a piece of shit and randomly freezing up when i try to play any decent computer games.

                              • I invented quake back in 1892, which eventually led to world war one when the German's wanted my software, so I fragged them all... FEUER FREI! That's why I can speak German now, so if any1 wants to chat in German, I'm down. Anyway, I released it in 1996 (104 years later) when I felt the world was mature enough to handle it, and other than the 80%-20% cool person to douchebag ratio I see on the servers (50%-50% in DM), it has been an extreme success!
