Wow.. Look at those old names. I'm not in any of the SS's but have played with many of them. I don't remember you though. Krix and a couple other of those guys still play.

        • Wow... Kathos! I remember you as well! I must admit this is pretty wild to already be making connections. I honestly thought I'd never have any chance in the world of talking to anyone from my old Quake days again.

          Good to see your name.

Again, I really wish I had more older screenshots. 95% of my stuff probably died with my old computer back when i was an "HPB". All I have is my pics from around 2002 when I finally got cable internet and my newfound LPB glory.

I'm trying to remember what clan you were in.. (if in one at all?)

P.S. - One of my older Quake names I just found while scouring the contents of my quake/id1 directory... Spaztix. And I was in a clan called X4, not X3 like I mentioned in an earlier post. I was never quite good enough for one of the higher tier clans. I think I was also a high pinger during pretty much the entire heydey of Quake. I think 2002 must have been about the last year I played based on my screenshot file last modifed dates.

          • I joined up with 403, but at the time we were playing TDM together, I'm not sure if I was with 403 just yet.

            • hey guys... i clanned in TF for a lot of years through highschool, mostly with UvM, but also with WM, EHA, GP, UN, DS, DoW, and clan infinity toward the end of the mod's run...

someone on my poker forum suggested playing quake, and i guess i hadn't imagined that communities still existed. i'm extremely nostalgic about TF, i loved the game and had a lot of fun playing it. it's kind of sad how excited i am to see this forum, i've got to go and check it out now.

              • Hello QuakeOne,

I've been playing Quake since it was realeased, and was a massive Wolfenstein and Doom fan before that. Mostly a Sinlge Player loner, but thinking (many, many years after everyone else got on the wagon) online multi's might be fun. I'll always be using the Nitrosurf handle in some shape or form so maybe I'll see you online and shoot you with a nail one day...

                Nice one!

                • grrretings to all, im Albertoto im making a comeback to the Quakering world, i distanced my self from gaming for lack of time = College/work/making art.

I graduated and now have some very needed sparetime to catch up... In my quake years i never really got too much into mods or engines, i enjoyed the game pretty much as it came, for many many years. Now i am eager to learn about this vast world of MODS and cracks and engines and all that stuff that seems so confusing right now...

Hope to have a better experience here, as i been to other Forums and sites, where fellow Quakers have an attitude towards Noobs and offered no help

After all, even the most badass Game craker and Quaker, started out from scratch

                  *cheers*

                  • Hello friends... Played Quake 9 years ago... single player.
My brother set me up... I remember used to have to fire up Quake from a DOS command... Now I'm using DarkPlaces.... having fun.

I still have TONS to learn.... like on multiplayer....I never see more than 10 people online in over 250 servers.... and often it takes forever to join....loading the maps.

But yeah... This is so cool seeing others keeping Quake alive!

                    • Hi all. I'm mostly a lurker. Found the site probably a year ago or more... don't remember. It was when someone mentioned it in John Romero's boards. Actually i thought i had registered before, but after trying to login for a while (and checking the members list) it seems that i was wrong :-P.

I don't know where to start! I'm shocked to see a Quake 1 forum alive and kicking! I'm actually quite ecstatic. I basically started playing Quake when it came out, and I played for several years (probably 4-5), even after most had considered it long dead.

I have always considered Quake 1 my favorite game of all-time. I remember being a newbie, always just playing around in random FFA servers (quake.netdoor.com and EROLS?), etc. It was such a fun game (and not to mention my first FPS where I actually learned how to use the mouse, and really play an FPS). After I actually figured out how to play, I remember being introduced to the guys I considered "pros". I met the darkside of Quake that really pulled me in and made me fall in love with the game. I was taken to the lovely world of ClanRing Deathmatch!

For years, I played Deathmatch with my friends, honing my skills in 1v1's on DM6 and DM2, and constant team games on DM3. (Greatest maps ever). Of course I played my fair share of CTF and Rune/hook Quake, RocketArena (I think it was called?), but DM will always be my favorite and where I considered home.

I doubt anybody would remember me, as I frequently changed Quake names. Most commonly I went by Knout or KN0CK0UT... Old DM clans I remember are... cK, DY, NBK, U4, X3, Elohim, and E5. Sadly I don't remember a lot of the others... Seeing as there is such a large member base here, I have no idea if I ever played with any of you guys, or if anybody here ever played the same styles of Quake as me...

Anyway, back to the point, I'm excited there is a community still surrounding Quake 1. To see so many other people who share love for the game still is awesome! I would love to get back into playing with anybody at any time, just PM me on the boards if interested! I'll do a little more trolling around the forums as well - it may be that you guys already have some servers up where you still play.

Like I alluded to... I prefer basic Quake or Deathmatch. CTF is fine. I never liked the runes or hooks so much - I loved just being an oldschool rocket jumper. But I would be happy to play any Quake mod with anybody just to get the experience again.

Through all my new computers, I always managed to carry over my Quake 1 (GLQuake) install just in case I ever had the chance to play again... so I'm ready!

Here are some old screenshots I have from some of my Deathmatch days back in 2002. On the remote chance that someone here recognizes any of the folks in the pictures (most are probably aliases), I'd love to talk! I wish I had some better ones of some of the official clanwars, and some screenshots with more of the oldschool guys, but I guess I didn't carry some of those over from old computers. Anyway here's what I have:

                        Screen1
                        Screen2
                        Screen3
                        Screen4

I apologize if this post sounds like an incoherent ramble. Anything Quake1-related can get me going on and on like a geriatric dude talking about the good ol' days.

                        - KN0CK0UT
All those screen shots remind me of the good times we have had back in the days! I still remember all those guys: BK, SD, SwedishChef, CK1, Assman, Optik, etc...

                        • Played Quake on release. I've always been a fan.
I'm a vanilla Quake purist. I like everything to be as close as possible to the optimal experience Quake offered in its heyday.

That doesn't mean I don't like mods. Props to RuneQuake and Team Fortress.
I think it's too bad that people are unaware of Team Fortress in the old days. Most people think Valve's Team Fortress Classic is the original. I hate those people. Team Fortess 2 will never match up to the genuine fun and great community of Quake Team Fortress. If I had a time machine, I'd go back and play it forever.

                            • hello

i've been quaking from late 1998 to 2000.

i never joined a clan because 1) i never had a decent connection by that time and 2) because using 56k with a free internet provider means you could play only from midnight to noon from monday to friday, so once clan matches used to happen on weekends i was always out of the game

but now with a 15mbps connection and a kinda better hardware i'm back on the quaking business.

oh and yes, i'm a noob
